It was a beautiful turquoise chiffon saree that I wore to work yesterday. It was perfect for the extremely hot weather in Delhi these days. Many years ago, I didn't have any chiffon sarees at all. I remember going to shop at Roop Sarees in South Extension and I picked up four beautiful light drapes. One of them was this one in my favourite colour turquoise. It has abstract print combined with geometric shapes, predominantly triangles. On the turquoise base it has shades of dark blue, almost looking like indigo and a beautiful light peacock green. Hence the pairing it with a similar green crepe blouse. I was pretty pleased with the effect.
The jewellery I wore was a ceramic necklace with a turquoise cord picked up from the Rajasthan emporium many moons ago. I have a similar one in yellow too. My danglers,my bracelet, my detachable watch strap and one of my rings are all pure silver with turquoise. The other large prominent ring is a brass one with a beautiful carved turquoise ceramic piece .
My bindi was inspired by the geometric shapes on the saree and is handcrafted into a triangle with four dots below using a teal water soluble Faber Castell coloured pencil.
My potli is replaced by a handbag which is a gift from a dear young friend called Simran Rajpal from Vietnam.Vietnam is known for its beautiful embroidered handbags. This particular handbag has a strip of turquoise ,a strip of pista green and a strip of light olive green with bright turquoise embroidery consisting of leaves, stems and tendrils. The back of the bag is plain black and it has black plastic handles.
