This year and especially this summer I've been really trying to go to all of the last places that have been on my Minnesota bucket list for years, because you just never know how long you'll be somewhere. And oh, the nation's first public garden was beautiful and peaceful! A little oasis so close to the city. #eloisebutlerwildflowergarden#onlyinmn#wildflowers#captureminnesota#exploremn
The showy lady slippers are still blooming at Eloise Butler Wildflower garden but not for long ....if you want to admire the Minnesota State flower in its glory get out to see them in the next day or so #showyladyslipper#eloisebutlerwildflowergarden
Meet Minnesota's state flower, the amazing Showy Lady's Slipper! This photo was taken around mid-day yesterday at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden within Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. Minnesota's state flower is one of 47 orchid varieties that occur in Minnesota. Most are elusive and rare. I've only seen a small number of the 47 in my lifetime of hiking. But the Showy Lady's Slipper is a hard act to follow. These beautiful blooms are found in early June in damp and undisturbed native areas. Efforts to propagate or move them usually are met with failure because they require a complex symbiosis with specific fungus in the soil to thrive and reproduce. Nature provides in astonishing ways. An amazing example of nature's wisdom and artistry! Have you ever seen one of Minnesota's native orchids? When and where?
