Canal Park Brewing Company had a special burger this weekend called "The Mayhem Burger" for the Minnesota Mayhem Weekend. Great leg workout tonight. What did you all train today?? Started with 4 sets of 6 with squats. Went with 250lbs and got 6 for all the sets so will be upping the weight next time. After that went to DB sumo squats, slow and controlled, for reps of 12. Then lying leg curls (my favorite leg curl variation) and really controlled it on the eccentric portion. Then we hit leg extensions for 3 sets but each set we did a drop set. Burn those quads πŸ”₯ finished with calves, abductor and adduction machines, then a few sets for abs! One of my main goals the remainder of 2017 and then 2018 is to pack on some size to my frame. I'll most likely be doing this for awhile with some mini cuts (4-6weeks max) but the majority will be a caloric surplus and focusing on improving size, strength, and performance. When it comes to training back I have found that using a variety of rep ranges and a lot of volume is what brings me results. Volume as in 4-6 sets and rep ranges going from 4-15, even 20. Back is such a strong and big muscle group that sometimes upping the weight and "cheating" a little bit for some exercises is a great way to overload the muscle. Obviously "cheating" as in a little body movement but still FEELING your back work with those little rep ranges. When it comes to a workout, a usual staple for my workouts are a wide grip and close grip vertical pull, a wide grip and close grip (width) horizontal pull (thickness) and then one isolation back movement. Delicious and quick strawberry blueberry smoothie! How to make: add water (or milk, almond milk, juice, you get the idea!) into your blender. Less liquid = more thick. Played with the hundos today on the incline. Really been enjoying my workouts in this caloric surplus I'm in! Had another awesome chest workout last night. Great tasting "bowl of gains" I like to call it. One cup of light and fit vanilla Greek yogurt, a packet of @oatsovernight and a scoop of @bpi_sports whey to finish it off! I used snicker doodle for the whey and the apple cinnamon oats. Macros on this bowl are 60g of carbs/8g of fat/67g of protein. Super easy to make and delicious! The apple and snickerdoodle go together perfectly! πŸ”₯πŸ’―πŸͺ🍎

The best "supplement" for your goals in the gym is FOOD! One of the first questions I get is, especially those looking to bulk up, is what supplements to take. Supplements aren't magic and won't help you at all if you're diet isn't on point. Lock in on your diet and training first, and make sure you're eating enough. Another thing people don't do is tracking macros. Don't overthink it, tracking macros isn't hard and it's not time consuming. Now I do believe tracking macros is a must when dieting, but when in a gaining/maintenance phase you can be a little more laid back. If you aren't gaining weight, track your food for a week or so, so you can see how much you're eating. You may think you're eating enough, but in reality you aren't. For example, If you're intake for the few weeks average around 2,500-2,800 and you aren't gaining any weight then up the calories by 350-500 calories. Some vascularity I saw a week after my show. Speaking of vascularity, I want to address a few topics. A lot of people ask about it, especially when they saw the veins I had in the gym around 4 weeks to 1 week out. Believe it or not, vascularity is pretty genetic. Some people are just more vascular than others. If you are pretty lean and don't have visible veins, then you probably won't be that vascular. Although it is genetic, these things do help: the training years you have, the level of leanness you are, things flowing in your blood such as sodium, glucose, fatty acids, preworkout, hell even alcohol! Anything that flows in your blood stream will make them come out and say hi. Hence why right now in this pic they are popping a week after my show. All the carbs, sodium, and fats I've been getting again. My conditioning and definition in places have surely changed πŸ˜“πŸ˜’but vascularity hasn't. βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–

Well prep is officially done. These last 10 weeks flew by fast! I ended up placing 4th in a challenging novice bodybuilding class, and didn't make top five for my classic physique class. Always taking it as a learning experience and now I know what I have to work on this off season. I'm happy with the progress I made these last 10 weeks, and the dedication, willpower, and work ethic I proved that I had to myself. To succeed in anything you need to be able to tune out the negativity, believe in yourself, and never lose sight of your goal. Right now, even though it's peak week I'm still 4 days out, but my mind is already drifting in the "prep is over" mindset. This is where it gets challenging not to stray off your diet or training. You need to have tunnel vision. You need to have willpower. Hold yourself accountable. Follow the peak week protocol.
