Yesterday, one of our elementary schools celebrated the last day before break with a Science Day! Students were encouraged to dress as scientists and we hung posters of scientists around the school (examples will be in the stories). Parents were also invited to attend and engage in science with their students. Students started by solving Thanksgiving/Fall themed engineering challenges. There was a different challenge for each grade level. Directly after that students built and launched rockets on the playground. Grades TK-5 were engaged in science and engineering yesterday. The teachers did such a wonderful job implementing this event school wide and it wouldn’t be possible without a dedicated principal. As the district Science TOSA I get to plan, organize, and coordinate events like these and it is so much fun! Seeing children and adults enjoying science will make me smile for weeks to come. ~Erin ❤️🤓
TK/Kinder: Hide the turkey
1st: build a boat that will hold the most turkeys
2nd: build a pilgrim cabin so they can survive the winter
3rd: build a thanksgiving table that will stand on its own and hold all the food
4th: create a way to pick up the fall leaves without touching them
5th: using helium balloons create a way for the turkeys to escape. The balloon had to rise slowly and they had to attach a place to hold the turkeys. •

We made blood today as a part of our Human Body Unit. It was such an easy and hands on way to learn about different blood cells. We also watched a Magic School Bus episode to complement our look at blood and the human body. The experiment ended as a sensory bottle for the baby. Win!

What causes the color to “explode?” Enjoy the food-related science activities we bring to you this month from our More Quirkles Experiments/Colorful Caroline book. Link in bio!

Glad it’s #friyay and we have a week off! I will be working hard getting all your orders done. Don’t forget the sale ends Sunday this night!

It was all things magnetic fields today. We used magnaprobes to map the magnetic field so we could see why magnets attract and repel. Then we used iron filings to look at different magnets magnetic field.

My son has been asking to learn about the planets so I'm working to complete a Solar System Unit Study. My goal is to have it done by next week! These are a few things I'm going to include in the unit 😊

Studied the human eye this week in science! What a complex and amazing body part we have. We learned about the three layers of the eye ball and then made an edible model to help cement the lesson.

Found a cake pop eye ball idea on Pinterest and used a marshmallow instead (ain’t nobody got time to make cake pops). The icing is the sclera, the green icing gel is the iris, the chocolate ball is the pupil and the fruit roll up on the back is the optic nerve. It’s always memorable when you get to eat your lesson!
