➖Chapter 1: The Grey Warden, Part 10➖
Mother was right but leaving my family in uncertainty felt like a big mistake. The darkspawn has been defeated before and i tried to think about that to comfort me.
I asked mother if she would stay in the castle and she answered for a few days. She will return to Bann Loren with Lady Landra and Dairren to keep them company. Father believed that the presence of the Teyrna could undermine my authority and i agreed.
With Father’s task still in mind, i decided to go to Fergus to say goodbye and mother took my right hand and said:
"I love you, my darling girl. You know that, don't you?"
"I know, mother. I love you, too.
"Go do what you must, then. I will see you soon," she replied, smiling.
When I opened the big wooden door to the royal chambers, I already heard Fergus talking to his wife Oriana and his son Oren. I stopped quietly at the door frame and listened.
"Is there really gonna be a war, papa? Will you bring me back a sward?" asked Oren and Fergus crawled his auburn hair that he had inherited from his father.
"That's 'sword' Oren. And I'll get you the mightiest one i can find. I promise. I'll be back before you know it."
Oren jumped up and down happily but Oriana crossed her arms full of doubt. "I wish victory was indeed so certain. My heart is... disquiet." "Don't frighten the boy, love. I speak the truth."
Fergus glanced towards the door as I entered the room. "And here's my little sister to see me off. Now dry your eyes, love, and wish me well." She wiped her face with the back of her hand and nodded.
"Should I ... wait outside?" I asked considerately but Fergus shook his head. "Stay. I'd like to say farewell."
Sadly, I ran up and hugged him. "I wish i could go with you, Fergus," i whispered. "I wish you could come! It'll be tiring, killing all those darkspawn myself."
"In Antiva, a woman fighting in battle would be... unthinkable," Oriana said and Fergus laughed. "Is that so? I always heard Antivian women were quite dangerous." "With kindness and poison only, my husband," Oriana responded and Fergus swallowed. "This from the woman who serves me my tea!" I laughed. My brother had the funniest humor.
