Ooo. This Siamese spitting cobra does not like me spying on him eating that quail egg.. -
Alright guys, i wanna dig into the subject of snakes and the art of egg-eating. There are basically 3 main ways. This first post will be about how cobras and some other snakes like rat snakes and corn, king snakes would eat eggs. The second video would give you guys a glimpse. Dunno why he went all out at that egg, not like it was gonna scramble off anywhere ;))) but normally these snakes will be raiding bird nests as well as rodent nests, stealing eggs and baby mice/rat pups from the parents before a hasty escape. They eat the egg whole and digest the shell as best they can. It all comes out in their excrement. The second method is used by many Kukri snakes, named after their sharp kukri knife tooth they use to pierce into an egg.. break a hole and suck up all the contents before leaving. The third method is used by actual Egg-eating snakes which have no teeth but a gigantic jaw-opening mechanic. Stomach juices take a while to work, they don’t have time for that.. so once they get the egg into their mouth and down to their neck.. their vertebral hypapophyses kick in. Basically a fancy name for spikes that stick down from their spine. Once the egg is under them, the snake will do a back and forth side to side motion with them.. the spines scratch and crack the egg. The snake sucks up the egg yolk and regurgitates the shell and moves onto the next one. Hope these facts weren’t too boring for you to eggnore but they’re fascinating to me and can be pretty hard to beat.

Me holding Skittles and @davidsfeed holding Stardust, both suitably named by @vipera_fangs ❤️
Skittles is a Khon kean king (Northern Thai), she is a month younger than Stardust. Stardust is a black Tak king (North-Western Thai) the localities look almost nothing alike. Hence why research is being done into seperating king cobras from different localities into different species altogether. Hoping to see the future for them. Ps, see? Me and him are not one person 🙃

The very last of the spitters to go back into her enclosure last night was the female Banded Rinkhals (Hemachatus heamachatus). This girl has just never warmed to me.
Unfortunately of all the "sensitive" species I keep these Rinkhals are the only Wild Caught animals I work with. I always try very hard to make sure I'm working with CB animals however although Rinkhals are fairly common in collections around the world they are notoriously difficult to breed. I do not know anyone who has successfully managed to do this consistently. The vast majority of the Rinkhals are poached directly from the wild for the international markets.
When I decided to try get a pair together to give a shot to breeding them myself I was quoted ludicrous prices based on what these poachers get on the European markets. Unfortunately some people are quite happy to exploit our wildlife for financial gain and just because it's not ivory it's acceptable.

I personally have no problem with one or two animals being collected to establish breeding projects provided no laws are broken.

The area of Kokstad where these Rinkahls are traditionally found is roughly 50 square km and if you look around social media you will see they are literally getting pulled out by the bucket full.

Unleashing my spirit cobra against al my foes. Leopard morph monocled cobra. Gotta get more cobra pics.. been ages since i took them.

Carmen's black tongue
Isnt she beautiful?
Carmen is a wester hognose, mildly venomous rear fanged. it would be hard for her to bite me with so little mouth and inject venom if her fangs are far back. As far as her venom goes its been said that its simmilar to bees venom. Unless alergic it should cause only mild swelling. Since Ive never been bitten its hard to say;) #hognosesnake #hobby #steveirwin #snake #snakes #snakesforinstagram #rescue #reptilesofinstagram #reptile #reptiles #animals #animal #amphibian #crocodile #aligator #westernhognose #colubrids #elapids #constrictors #venomous #vipers #love #passion #travel #earth #random #zoo

Slowly moving each animal back into their homes one by one...I love these Black Necked Spitting Cobras (Naja nigricollis) they have really grown on me. 10 years ago I don't think I would have given them a 2nd look. I think the big difference with cobras is working with geniune Captive Bred animals.

One of the things I've always done coming into the breeding season is a really deep clean just before pairing all my animals. A bank of clean Elapid enclosures before putting these pooping machines back.

Prince 👸
Juvenile boa constrictor
Yes he will grow big;) no he's not danguerous (dont bother them in the wild though)
Yes he CAN bite, doesnt mean he will (you are more likely to be bitten by one of my cats😂)
No dont tell me a story of your friend's friend who has a snake who was streching next to a girl to size her...
Please dont tell me its true ! 😂 it hurts my guts.
Bollocks - take if from a girl who has the knowledge about reptiles
if you still dont believe me... here

constrictors (snakes that kill through suffocating their pray by coiling around it) are ambush predators. no animal will sit and wait to be sized by a snake 😂😂 No snakes didnt learn this in captivity. They arent dogs, they dont learn tricks. Snakes follow their instict. Thats it. Pet snakes can be docile if they dont see us as a threat.
thanks 😎

Woo! You’re finally done with the underground life? This is like the 3rd or 4th time i’ve gotten a decent pic of him. A very clean and very stunning.. Malayan krait. No black markings within the white.

Prowling his enclosure looking for food again.. tmr’s feeding day again i suppose! Red-headed krait.

Deep in blue.
This (probably) korean rat snake is going to shed soon. Usually green and blue today grey and dull. He was found in a garden in Uk. owner hasnt been found so snake is with me now.
He's a trouble to handle. Quick and agile + he bites. £ dont like to handle him alone but he made a poop and he needs some soaking to help him shed his skin.
Has never bitten me personally, but he tried.
Hasnt got a name yet. I havent found suitable kne for him 😂
