What is this? Hide and seek? No.. it's dinner time. The heck you doin? I guess the song sums it up... he took it after 5 mins but pulled it inside 😂

I guess you don't need assistance.. suit yourself! If that tail pokes out the side of your mouth again cause your fang can't get it down.. don't come crying to me!

Who's hungry? Oracle is.. very hungry. See the venom dripping? Yesss, king cobras eat snakes as their primary diet. I feed him every 3-5 days.

Crunch crunch crunch... the big tube you see in his mouth is a glottis, a breathing tube that helps him... breath.. while he's eating.

Oracle trying to get the tail down 😅 having a bit of trouble.. stretching and stretching.

Getting up close and personal with Fluffernutter the king cobra, he has a tiny little shed' scale stuck on top of his head i have to remove so i took the opportunity to film this with a selfie stick (yes i have one just for vids or pics like these). He did not like the encounter at all haha, but it was just for less than a minute. Here goes to show you guys some things i wanna talk about along with showing you the inside of a king cobra's mouth. A snakes' tongue does not come out of their glottis (that big breathing tube they have as seen here) the tongue is hidden under a fold right before the glottis. The teeth and fangs are protected and covered under their membranous flaps, king cobras do not have long fangs unlike vipers; they are fixed and stay completely hidden unless they're chomping down on something, just because you see in many drawings does not mean it is true. So i better not get "defanged?" Comments haha. Not going to stress him out by milking him for a video to prove that either, i have many feeding videos showing their venom in action. Let's enjoy His cute grumpiness and not bother him further 😅

Aspire is so gold this season, whereas Barnabus, Fluffernutter and the rest have dulled out... odd.. i know you guys wanna see Oracle, but gonna have to wait on that. Remember snakes are more of a display animal, not to mention he's a huge animal. I never take him out unless i need to, which i haven't. He's starting to go in shed now too! Might be a tad bit before you see him ;) if not i'll just post an older pic.

So cute, What do you think about it ?😊

When working with spitting cobras, always make sure the animal has protective goggles on...

Put that away. It's inappropriate..

I have my cute face and my rawr face. Or.. my war face. Guangzhou king just shed today, definitely a grumpy fella and he knows it..

I haven't seen you in months Momma! Staying underground for so long haha, she just shed yesterday, look at those stripes that seem to be radiating out of her body.

Sativa just shed.

Yessss the bronze head just popped up after shed! And it's covering the hood too! He is one beautiful Malaysian king!

One of our more curious black mambas finally started shedding today!! He couldn’t help but watch me as I was working with the Gila monsters in the venom room. #mamba #blackmamba #venom #education #reptiles #snakes #elapids #dendroaspispolylepis #dendroaspis #phoenixherp #phoenixherpetologicalsociety

Here's Tiny king Tim, a Northern x Eastern Thailand king cobra, whereas the next one is Quinn from the last post (his future girlfriend in a couple years), a Northeastern Thailand king cobra. Look at the differences! (And yes they're only in these temporary tubs for a few minutes because i really to see their differences side by side)

Just adore her black tail. This is Quinn ❤️wish she adored my camera though. It is near crazy impossible work to gather intel on all the localities of king cobras and their color/pattern varieties that come with it, scratch that, it basically is crazy impossible. With them on thousands of volcanic islands of indonesia and the philippines alone is just crazy. Every locality looks different, a lot usually depends on their environment. Thailand alone has over 10 variations (that we know of!) i'll find time to study up, gather info and write up detailed posts about some basics on the Thai kings because i have a pile of info on them (that still doesn't cover all). To properly identify and separate locality from locality is huge work. It sounds easy but for many localities we have merely scratched the surface. Heck we've only ever encountered 2 mangrove forest-dwelling king cobras a few years ago here. They've been here forever and all of sudden we just found out! Haha elusive buggers. Many herpetologists are even suggesting to make these different looking snakes a subspecies (or god.. a branch of species) another good note is a couple king cobra localities have had their venom tested, the smaller island dwelling kings end up being more venomous and harder to treat than the bigger mainland ones. Northern thais are more potent than southerns - another example. This could be factored as what they're eating in the wild could need more powerful venom to kill.. but it just sounds slightly off to me. But that's just my thoughts on the subject! No one can really say for sure about all of this, that's why we're waiting for more scientific research on these animals to give us more answers. Until then, they stay as Ophiophagus hannah (the way i like it) and we'll just be studying and understanding the research that's out now and ponderously ponder the imponderables :)

"I'm tiny but i mean business"

It’s a species that I adore💫 who’s able to guess the species ?😉

To warm up this winter evening, this picture of 2 pretty little blue dragonflies 💙

A huge docile monocled cobra i found during my trip down South.

If you know me, you know I love people. All kinds of people with different backgrounds, styles and experiences. Portrait photography often can have intimate and special moments shared with the person in front of the camera and behind the camera. I also love adrenaline rushes, adventure, danger, and excitement. Nothing combines all those elements and spices up any portrait session like a monocle cobra to pose with @aharper620 #moniclecobra #najinaji #cobra #elapids #boa #boamorphs #boaconstrictor #albino #snakes #animalportrait #portraitphotography #dangerousportraits #hotherps #herpphotography

Here’s Tribolonotus of @loreptil : a species which I like very much😍. Don’t forget to check her account 😉

#throwback to this big fella, snouted cobra (Naja annulifera). Miss these snakes.

It has really beautiful eyes 😍

It’s so cute on her sheet💚 Can you guess this species ?😉

Had to spend time with Katie roaming around today, let her googly eyes ensnare you. My cutest snake and one of my most loved animals. It's now a little over 3 years since i've rescued you from that jungle.. after you lost horribly to that big clouded monitor you tried to eat.. for who knows why? (And yes, her scar is there, the 5 missing ribs is why that spot is sucked in as well). I love you more and more everyday. Sorry about the crappy lighting and focus haha, i have to change my lights... right now i'm stuck sitting on the floor back against the wall cause she fell asleep on me.. i'll put that in my story 😅

Omen shed. She's very trusting around me now, seems to only hate when i smell like.. well.. any other snake i worked with before her. Reposted cause i like these pics better 😅

The big girl's had her first clutch this morning. The #male is a highlight pastel, the genetics of the #female are not known. She's dark brown, nearly #black.
