If you are in NYC, seize the opportunity to see this documentary through August 19th🌷@museumjewishheritage
The day was May 2, 1961. Jewish photographer Henryk Ross takes his seat on the stand, ready to testify against Nazi Adolf Eichmann. Ross’s testimony, which included photographs taken by him inside Lodz Ghetto in Poland, would come to be known as profound documentation of the atrocities that took place during the Holocaust. This photographic evidence continues to be shared on an international scale, traveling through cultural institutions in order to educate audiences about what life was like inside a Nazi ghetto during World War II. Immerse yourself in the images, stories and lives captured by Ross between 1940-1944 on display in “Memory Unearthed: The Lodz Ghetto Photographs of Henryk Ross”—on view now at the Museum through August 19, 2018. #repost #neveragain #eichmanntrial #eichmanntrial1961 #lodzghetto #holocaust #documentary #henrykrossexhibit #henrykrossphotographs #davidperlov

Sketches by Ronald Searle of the Adolf Eichmann trial in Jerusalem, 1961. Cameras were allowed in the courtroom, but Life magazine commissioned Searle to sketch the trial for his unique perspective. He was the only sketch artist present.

😍🤓Found this in the book box in Old Ellicott City. Totally reading this after I finish my book about true accounts from an incarcerated Black Panther from Baltimore. #nerdlife #history #gainingperspective #learning #grow #reading #book #postWWIItrial #EichmannTrial

It's been almost 7 years since I first read about the Eichmann trial in some edition of Reader's Digest. After watching the flick "The Eichmann Show" yesterday, I realized that I'm still confounded by the widely publicized trial and the man himself. To be fiercely honest, I find it hard to judge him for his lack of contrition in the light of his defense that he was simply bound by the oath of loyalty and being just another dutiful SS official. ( A defense that was widely heard during the Nuremberg trials too)
But the startling fact is that no one has really been able to decrypt his personality or explain his trial room nonchalance in a convincing manner. Was he the personification of the " Banality of Evil" who never understood the enormity of his monstrosity as Hannah Arendt ( thanks Prof. Visdomini for introducing her in class) believed or was he that rabid anti-semite who spewed hatred for the Jews and derived a sense of gratification while helping annihilate millions?
Obscurity still reigns!

to end this year, went to see Margarethe von Trotta's "Hannah Arendt." The film tells the story behind Arendt's concept "the banality of evil."
