I remember watching this on the news as a little boy. Egypt has been in chaos ever since.

Assassins of the terror group Egyptian Islamic Jihad firing at Anwar Sadat, the former President of Egypt. Cairo, Egypt. October 6th 1981. The four assassins were soldiers in the Egyptian Army who defected in support of the terrorists, and their main motive was widespread anger at the peace between Israel and Egypt from the Camp David Accords. The defectors got out of a truck that was in the middle of a parade commemorating Operation Badr from the Yom Kippur War, and they began approaching President Sadat while armed with rifles and grenades. Sadat stood up and prepared to salute them as he thought that was what they were planning to do, but then they began firing at him. Sadat was shot in the chest and died two hours later, and ten other people were killed with him. One assassin was killed and the other three were captured and later executed. Hosni Mubarak would succeed Sadat as President of Egypt, and ruled until he was ousted in the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
