Excerpt from "Poem after Frieda Kahlo’s Painting The Broken Column" by Eduardo Corral from his book Slow Lightning. Life feels like a series of largely painful moments and poetry/music/art seems like how the most glorious agony can be healed.
Every time I have lashed out, run away from or sabotaged love/intimacy, was some reliving of that which I experienced in childhood. Some underlying mechanism persisted that led me to live as though love and intimacy could not coexist because there was simply no precedent/model. Finally beginning to get professional therapeutic help and it makes me realize that it was part my own collusion in the delusion that we can do powerful work alone. Even in our greatest solitude we carry with us all that anyone has ever taught us, be it embodying and accessing ancestors or the sheer divinity of interbeing. I hurt but I also laugh, sing, dance, cry, scream and commune. I drank too much coffee yesterday n barely slept; this is def the most appropriate forum to share such sincerity!!! #eduardocorral #poem
