Day 6 of #100daysofpractice ▪️#Mahler #Symphony 1 -3rd Mvmt. a couple Eb clarinet excerpts ▪️This is the first time in 6 months that I've played Eb. It's always fun revisiting playing super high. I spared you in this video though. 🙉 My little secret is that I am STILL playing on the reeds I picked out in 2004 when I played Eb in the Army Field Band for awhile. I had kept them in a sealed case during my time off, and I don't play Eb a lot, so they have lasted all this time. I typically play on reeds longer than the average person; mine last for many months. I think it has something to do with having what my dentist calls a "juicy" mouth. Seriously! He always has a hard time filling my cavities becuase my mouth won't stay dry even for a few seconds. I'm sure there's been zero research on this subject regarding playing a reed instrument, but I never need to soak my reeds and I think there is less bacteria growth on my reeds because of the extra saliva. I am also chronically dehydrated becuase I never feel thirsty; my mouth never feels dry! Curious if any of you reed players out there have some experience with this? ▪️I really like playing Eb! The baby clarinet fits my small hands well and my left hand fingers stay rounded more easily. I'm in the market to buy one this year, so if anyone knows of a #buffetcrampon for sale, please let me know!
