from the foods you eat all the time. this is one of the big reasons i do cleanses, but you can also just rotate the foods you eat daily (which i also do). it helps give your body a variety of nutrients & helps avoid development of food allergies (yep, it’s often the things you eat the most or crave that you have built up an intolerance to).

also take a break from your exercise routine. i swear you won’t gain weight & your body will probably actually really like it.

then when you start your exercise again it feels really damn good. and the foods you missed? they taste even better. taking breaks reminds you why you love what you do & eat in the first place ✌🏻

Thanks for reminding me to tell you guys about the "gum" I grew up knowing! Mastic is a tree resin found in the Mediterranean.

The first mention of mastic was by Hippocrates, using mastic for the prevention of digestive problems, colds and as a breath freshener due to it's antioxidants, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.

It looks like tiny translucent rocks/brittle, but when chewed, the it softens and becomes a bright white, tasting like cedar and frankincense.
_
During the Byzantine Empire, mastic was made into a monopoly by the Sultan. The penalty for stealing mastic was execution. WTF? 😦
_
Aside from chewing mastic, it has several other uses from culinary (cooking and preserving), medicinal, cosmetic, and my ancient relatives used it for embalming.

I chew it often, and over time it starts to breakdown so whether I'm supposed to or not, I do ingest it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Outside of the Mediterranean, you can find it in Middle Eastern shops and probably online. Know, however, this isn't your stretchy-soft bubble gum. And know, it's not filled with a bunch of unnecessary ingredients or processing.

Here's how I make mine if you care to join us;
.
.
🍅 1 can diced tomatoes + 2 Tbsp of tomato paste .
🍶 1 tsp of balsamic @jomeisfinefoods & @tessemaes is my fave ❤️.
❣ 1 whole @sandhurstfinefoodsau char-grilled red pepper, chopped
💛 4 lge garlic cloves .
🍄 1/2 C mushroom .
💜 1 sml red onion .
🍃 A few fresh basil leaves roughly chopped & a couple of big handfuls of spinach .
🥘 1 tsp @meadowmarrowbonebroth "boost" beef bone broth is boosted with MCT oil & beets & it's ah-maze-zing!) + 1/2 C water .
🍝 500 g ground meat - (tonight I used turkey) .
🌶 A pinch of red pepper flakes .
✨ S & P to taste .
.
✳️ Sauté onion & garlic in @fourthandheart ghee til tender .
✳️ Add mushrooms , pepper, turkey, stir to combine .
✳️ Once meat is almost cooked through add remaining ingredients &
let it all simmer until nicely reduced and served on a mountain of zucchini noodles (I like mine raw) or regular spaghetti, a baked potato or even just some wilted greens #youdoyou👌🏻

To serve - .
🍅 Top with a big scoop of my fave roasted baby tomatoes (recipe/how-to in my profile ) .
🌶 Chili flakes .
🧀 @extraordinary.foods @pimp.my.salad cashew "cheese"
⭐️ All drizzled with a creamy, dreamy avocado ranch dressing (made with 2 Tbsp @coyo_is_coconuts natural yogurt, 1 tsp @primalkitchenfoods ranch, 1 scp @vitalproteins unflavored collagen & 1/4 of an 🥑 + S-P) on allllll of the things!

Simple, satisfying, ready in under 30 minutes & happily devoured, in record time, by the whole family, BAE actually declared this to be the best spaghetti bolognese she's ever had, I think she might be right, this really was so delicious ! 😋❤️👌🏻

Add the raw cauliflower rice and brown. Using your favorite Nut Crumbs flavor, throw in a handful and simmer for a minute. Chop up a couple cherry tomatoes and green onion and add for extra zing ❤️ Fry up a sunny side up egg to go on top and breakfast is served! Happy Wednesday y’all 🙌🏼
