I was asked: WHY AM I BULKING.
📍My progress plateaued. Even eating just a bit more, I gained weight. I’m also losing strength.
📍I have biceps, quads definition and what seemed like a 6 pack but the muscles look deflated. And deflated muscles are NOT NICE 🙅.
📍Hormone out of whack. Cortisol through the roof, irregular period and 💤sleep problems.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
🔹The body didn’t get enough rest and not enough fuel (food). I sure am a fitness addict and definitely over-trained. I wasn’t an advocate for calorie counting and have eat intuitively BUT it also meant I MIGHT under feed myself without realising it
🔹Metabolism has adapted and might have even ‘damaged’. .
🔹Not enough energy and body is ‘smart’ enough to slow down production. Eventually, it shuts down all bodily function to reserve energy for workouts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .
WHAT TO DO TO FIX IT?
✅ Eat more and go on caloric surplus (min 3000 cal/day now)
✅ Stop excessive HIIT/cardio and cut down on the frequency (3 workouts/week MAX). Too much HIIT sent the body into fight or flight mode.
I don’t know how long this will take. I’m thinking refeeding phase will be a MIN of 3 months. The body needs to get out of survival mode and feel safe to rev up the metabolism, build muscle/strength and perform other bodily functions again.
I’m STRUGGLING some days. With more calories, weight gain is inevitable. I felt like a whale most days and am a sad puppy looking at people lifting weights while I REST AND EAT 🍴. I’m prepared to lose all definition until I recover, then with a fixed metabolism and more muscle, cutting phase should reveal a stronger and leaner fuller muscle 💪.
