As I understand the phenomenon of being VEGAN, nutritional intake is strictly plant based. Incidentally, there exists the notion, some are vegan for the prevention of killing animals for food.
I get the science of being Vegan. It is logical. My standard meal days are one VEGAN Meal, one VEGETARIAN mean, and one MEAT meal. Being a baby boomer, I do not deal with absolute rules well. For me to be faithful to myself, this is the path I have.
I am challenged with the distinction if one is to be made of what one will kill and eat and what one will not kill and eat. This has nothing to do with right or wrong. This is choice.
We, humans, are a strange lot. It has not been that long ago, we ate each other to take on the other’s power. Quiet as it is kept, there is a lot of talk about people eating each other now. Then there is the thing Christians do symbolically consuming the body of Jesus. Roman Catholics take it to the point of believing on the place the symbols in their mouth, they are literally eating the body of Jesus.
Notice, I take issue with none of this. I have been Christian all of my life and many other things. It is who we are. I am simply challenged by the Vegan community that regard pants to have less existential value than animals when it comes to food. If you eat it, you either killed it or someone else did, plant or animal.
Vegans, please talk to me. I look forward to the rationale about sentience and feeling pain and cruelty. I did not touch the social implications of being vegan.
