It can be the most confusing topic in all of diet and exercise.

This idea that carbs are bad.
-
Is it really true?
-
Vegetables? Full of carbs.
-
Fruits? Full of carbs.
-
Potatoes, oats, quinoa, beans, lentils...
-
Full. Of. Carbs.
-
I mean vegetables are obvious. Even the biggest fear mongers out there aren’t trying to convince you vegetables are bad.
-
Only crazies are telling you fruits are.
-
And even though starches like sweet potatoes, oats, and beans are called to question — let’s be real here:
-
Fibre, nutrient dense, filling.
-
This whole fearing carbs thing seems to be bullshit.
-
And it is.
-
If you’ve eaten too many carbs in your life my guess is it has, and never had, anything to do with pounding apples.
-
Or eating plates filled with rice.
-
It’s too uncomfortable to eat that much of those foods.
-
But.
-
Breakfast cereals. Chocolate. Potato CHIPS.
-
Processed stuff...that usually, and ironically, carry as many calories from fat as carbs anyways, tend to be the problem.
-
And it isn’t really the carbs and fats that are the problem, it’s the processed nature of these foods. It isn’t the sodium either — you need sodium — you just don’t need that much, combined with fake fats, refined sugars without the fibre and water.

Make sense?

Carbs aren’t holding you back, even if you’ve convinced yourself of it.

It has been A WHILE since I’ve whipped up a smoothie, so this beautiful morning seemed like the perfect time. Sun is shining, I sat outside and had my morning matcha for a bit after an awesome HIIT workout to start the day, and now breakfast is SPOT ON. ✔️Steamed and frozen zucchini, frozen blueberries, banana, 1/2 scoop @majusuperfoods mushroom adaptogen blend, 2 tbsps. @manitobaharvest hemp hearts, 2 tbsp. @navitasorganics chia seeds, 1 tbsp. truly raw @betteralmondbutter, 1/2 cup @califiafarms almond milk, and one handful of ice, all blended up in my @vitamix. Topped off with @larkellenfarm grain-free granola bites and fresh blueberries. ☀️ Taking a few moments to sit and soak up the sunshine and just be present this morning felt SO good, it really is so necessary to have a few of those slower morning moments. Be sure to take some time to sit with yourself this morning, and remind yourself that you are awesome and you’ve got this. 😎

What a tasty lunch thanks to @jonasseafood 🦀🥑 Dressed Cromer crab mixed with smashed avocado, lemon juice and black pepper and eaten in little gem leaves. Simple but absolutely delicious 😋 I have just been reading about ‘Cromer’ crabs and found out that they are caught off the Northern cost of Norfolk around Cromer village. Thanks to the chalk shelf and nutrients-dense waters in this region make the crabs particularly flavoursome, tender and fragrant. These are meaty crabs that have a relatively high proportion of white to brown meat. I’ve also found out that the UK has become a net exporter of domestic crab, with the bulk being shipped for consumption in Spain and France... Let’s spread the word about such a delicious local foodstuff right on our fingertips so to encourage local consumption. I got mine this morning at Budgens in Virginia Water @discoverbudgens • Go and grab one and try for yourself how yummy Cromer crab is 🦀Did you know that crab meat contains 3 times the amount of selenium than cod and 12 times that of beef? They are a wonderful source of omega 3 fatty acids and provide good amount of protein, vitamin and minerals. Contrary to the old wife’s tale, eating shellfish does not raise blood cholesterol. Apart from selenium boiled crab meat is a good source of zinc, copper, phosphorus and magnesium as well as vitamin B2. Crabnifficent, isn’t it 😃🦀
