Here's something you can do with those rubbery fundraising bangles once their time has passed. (You'll buy another next year anyway!) Turn them into cosy bangles with a bit of left over yarn. The blue one is a variegated type which turned out nice. I reckon self striping sock yarn would look great too.
You need about 3.5m of a non- itchy yarn for each bangle. Tie one end around the bangle in a firm knot, leaving a decent tail. Wrap the yarn over the bangle and through the loop like a buttonhole or blanket stitch (see the other two pics). Push each stitch close to the previous one so there's no gap. Keep going all the way around!
When you reach your knot tie the end to the tail you left and use a needle or crochet hook to tuck the ends in. Ta-da! Wear you new cosy bangle with pride in your craftiness!
