High dynamic range, or HDR, image of an old abandoned windmill in eastern Colorado’s Pawnee National Grassland.
This is one of my favorite photographs I’ve taken of a windmill and of the Pawnee! I was with a friend driving the back roads of Pawnee one January morning east of Fort Collins, Colorado and she discovered, way off in the distance, this windmill—without its windmill rotors. It was a real mudbog to get the Land Rover out there! We arrived and found the windmill blades on the ground and I thought it was a great scene showing “living history” of the Pawnee as well as how the elements always reclaim anything man-made put there. Due to the lighting, I made an HDR image, exposing seven exposures, each one exposure value apart from the other, and merged them in Photomatix Pro.
