Free Agent Targets:
Denver Broncos WR Cody Latimer
I remember hearing that Howie Roseman was a big fan of Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer during the 2014 Draft. Latimer went 56th overall while the eagles traded up to the 42nd pick to select Jordan Matthews. Matthews was clearly a Chip Kelly guy and the Eagles went in that direction. It was the right choice as Latimer struggled to ever climb Denver’s depth chart. In 2017 he had a career high 19 catches 287 yards and 2 touchdowns. While you look at those stats and wonder why the Eagles would sign them, it makes sense. Cody Latimer is just 25 years old and could still develop into a solid NFL player as he showed promise in 2017.
As Jimmy Kempski mentioned, Latimer is a very good special teams player specifically as a gunner. The Eagles have always looked for high end special teams players. This season the Eagles unit struggled compared to years past. They had three young players as gunners as well as losing Chris Maragos to injury.
Cody Latimer had an impressive Combine and stands at 6’2” 215 pounds. At the worst Latimer would be a cheap option in the wide receiver room as well as a very valuable special teamer.
For the cap strapped Eagles this move just makes too much sense not to happen.
