16Bit-Jay: Its no big secret that I am a YUGE fan of 90s Mercs — basically anything touched by Bruno Sacco has earned a place in my heart. I think it is ‘cos I grew up in the midwest of USA, fed a steady diet of GM and Ford iron. My family would take trips to California and I’d ride around in relatives’ such brilliant examples of engineering (W123s and R107s) - that when I finally could start driving, Mercs were what I lusted after. Let me explain why this HVAC / Stereo panel of a w124 is so freakin’ awesome - in that satisfyingly inscrutable German way -
1/ WTH - how the heck do you even decipher solid/open arrow up/down?
2/ “O” for off — but ON is implicit - press a function for ON.
3/ Open fan for “low” and solid fan for “high” — right gotcha. uh huh.
4/ At least you threw me a bone with the explanation “auto”
5/ A freaking lever/bar thingie for volume?!?! Like a knob was just too straightforward!
6/ Bass and treble notes for “bass and treble” —- riiiiight. Like 10% of Americans will get that.
7/ |<<R WTF??? Oh right, repeat tape track.
8/ Daaaayum. Dolby C. You are in a FANNCY ride if it has not just Dolby B, but also C.
9/ 1->2, oh right, auto-reverse.
10/ * ??? What? ASTERISK?!?! What even the !?!??
11/ L-D. Because who knows how often you need to switch antenna gain between local and distant (answer - NEVER). #w124 #500E #300E #E320 #400E E420 #E500 #Eclass #mercedesbenz #E500E #benz #mercedesclassic #16bitclassics #16bitJL #90s #brunosacco @mbclassiccenter @mbclassic @mercedesbenzmuseum
