When you hear from a customer who’s upset about mill knots and you want to ensure their next skein has none.
Mill knots are the cost of doing business for indie dyers. Well really, anyone who sells yarn. There is a mill standard that we are told we must be willing to accept. This is what it would take to check every single skein that leaves our studio. Because of this, we have to trust our sources (whom we sample and test and vet excessively), and when there is an issue (with this base, one in a thousand or so), we exchange the skein without issue. .
PS: the “knots” were slightly unspun bits, where we think the mill splices the yarn ends.
