German Horsemans Medal, Reitabzeichen. Was originally a civillian award. It was later adopted by the Wehrmacht as a military decoration. This award was earned for demonstrating equestrian skills. This probably belonged to a German Cavalry soldier. We found this medal a few days ago on a former barracks location.

Motor Vehicle Badge with DRIVER-T (Tracked) clasp found today in Normandy!

This is a military special skill badge of the United States Army which was first created in July 1942. The badge is awarded to drivers, mechanics, and special equipment operators to denote the attainment of a high degree of skill in the operation and maintenance of motor vehicles.

We found this badge close to a Stuart tank casing. Chances are this badge belonged to one of the crew members.

Broken and burned dogtag of a Dutch soldier. The dogtag was probably dumped when the unit surrendered to the German Wehrmacht in 1940.
The writing on the tag is hard to make out, but if you look closely you can read: BEILEN, 22-10-1920, 1RI. Beilen is a town in the Netherlands, this is where the soldier was born. The date, is his birthday. 1RI stands for 1st Regiment Infantry, the unit the soldier was in.
On the second photo you can read NEDERLAND and the soldiers name, MAAT JAN. Jan being his first name and MAAT his surname.
The last photo shows the register of the town of Beilen. Here you can see Jan's family and their data. All the data on the dogtag is correct with the register. Unfortunatly the Military registers in the Netherlands are incomplete and not easy to gain acces to. Thus making it hard to find more info about this soldier.

Bronze civillian medal "Zuiderzee Visscherij Tentoonstelling". This medal was given to officials that participated in a Dutch fishing exhibition in 1930. This exihibition was even attended by the Dutch Royal Family. On the backside of the medal you can see the date it was awarded; 5 SEPT. 1930. This medal most likely belonged to a Dutch soldier.

Royal Netherlands Army relics! These items were left behind by Dutch forces when the Wehrmacht invaded Holland. On the first photo you can see several uniform buttons, a civilian medal (will be in the upcoming post) and Dutch Army dogtags.
On the third photo you can see the detail on one of the dogtags, it says 1RI meanin 1st Regiment Infantry, the unit the soldier was in.
The fourth picture shows how the dogtags would look like in mint condition.
All these items were found during an evening hunt that took place yesterday. Some of you might have seen the live story photos yesterday.

This silver coffee pot was found during our last trip to Germany. It was found in a Canadian dumppit. The story behind it is quite interesting... We can learn from the silver stampings that the coffee pot itself was made in 1929 in England.

The logo on the front of the pot turned out to be from the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. This fleet carried over a million tons of cargo and a million troops during the Second World War. This tells us that a Canadian soldier that was on board of one of these ships really liked the silver coffee pot. This soldier basically "liberated"(or stole 😁) the pot, while on his sail from Canada to England.

The soldier managed to hold on to it until he lost it in Germany on the battlefield. How was the coffee pot lost? Did the soldier survive the extensive battles in the area? ...The answers we will probably never know.

Another Stalag dogtag in a cleaned and readable state. A POW had to wear this instead of his old (own military issued) dogtag. In the video you can see the state it was found in.
