Day 15 of my #100dayproject #100strongwomeninmyhistory: Johanna ter Steege, actress and multipotentialite.
Johanna ter Steege made big impression on me with her role in the movie Spoorloos (based on the Het Gouden Ei by Tim Krabbe. A few years later an American remake had great succes: The Vanishing). And I was not the only one: she won lots of prizes with it. And that's kind of cool when you realize she was in the movie only eleven minutes. The bummer for the one playing the hostage, right? This movie was shot when she was in acting school. Later she played lots roles in international movies: Sweet Emma, Dear Böbe, Immortal Beloved, Paradise Road. And Dutch movies ofcourse.
She often was compared with Meryl Stree because of her natural way of acting and sophistication. I like that fact! Ter Steege is very meticulous in choosing her screenplays. And that's wat I like about her: she does know what she wants and doesn't want. And because she gives her complete self in acting, I think she's right. And she is special because she knows there is more in life than being an actress. Super Dutch. Hahahah.
Under the heading 'nice to know': Stanley Kubrick once labeled ter Steege worlds best actress. He preferred her to Julia Roberts for his movie Aryan Papers (which was never made though). Johanna ter Steege... strong woman and level-headed rolemodel!
