Chris Khong, Assistant Lead, Digital Production, Family Customer Group, and Barry Toa, Manager, Business Development, Strategic Segment Development both ‘moved around the block’ within the various business segments and first got to work together when they were both in the Youth team, three years ago. “The challenge posed to us was to create financially viable online content that engages Youth and to get it onto a global platform….that was how the online programme “TravelSSBD” was born,” said Barry. Chris handles the creative aspects of the projects while Barry handles the business side of things. The pairing’s skill set complements each other. Chris’s creative opinions were seldom valued ‘cos most want the last say so when we started working together, Chris thought that he could finally get his thoughts heard given he was working with a “new bird”. Boy, was Chris wrong! #justkidding. “What we value most about our partnership is our brutal honesty and calm disposition. We agree to disagree and we never, ever, let it get personal. We always stuck to our principles and common goal of delivering the best to our consumers. Good or bad, we made decisions together,” both echoed. They used to spend a lot of time together having lunches and after office drinks to brainstorm new ideas. Now, with Barry becoming a new dad, most of their “hang-out” time is in his car when he Ubers Chris to and fro work.
