Unfortunately I can't do the Open this year. Just under two months after a full open hip surgery, there's still not much that I can do yet. With physio, hard work and persistence I can and will be better than ever before. We hit that 100 lb dumbbell again for a single arm snatch as a warm up for deadlifts. On other days, I would drop under the weight during the catch portion but today I powered through with the upper body. Explosive moves are valuable for improving sprints, heavy lifting, and athletics. Snatches in particular are great for the upper back and also train ankle, knee, and hip extension which are all involved during sprints. #powermovement #explosiveness #dumbbellsnatch #snatchesinseattle

Gestern Abend lag ich nachm Training tot im Bett. Meine Beinbeuger waren so platt, dass ich Probleme hatte eine halbwegs angenehme Position zum Schlafen zu finden und dem Rest vom Körper gings auch nicht wirklich besser. 😅
Ich hoffe nicht oft auf ein leichtes #wod, aber heute war so ein Tag. Und was kommt? #open17point1 😱😱😱

Today’s workout was a good one, focused on strength thangs aka overhead squats followed by 👉🏾
10 minutes for as many rounds/reps:
10 dumbbell snatches/5 per arm (35lbs)
10 pull-ups
10 box jump overs
I did this RX (performing the workout as prescribed, no scaling down of the movements) + ended up completing 4 rounds + a few extra snatches 🏋🏽‍♀️

Snatch Demo. Kettlebell and Dumbbell Snatches are not the same. They are similar but should be viewed as different. Here is a side by side comparison of the movements. More hinge in a kb snatch and more squat in a db snatch. I would never snatch a kettlebell from the floor like with a dumbbell unless I want an injury. Practice 😃

Dumb - bells. Most cross fitters feelings towards the dumbbell trend, but really - IT IS IMPORTANT. Use them. Some of the advantages of single arm training/dumbbell use: ---
-CORE STABILITY: the weight of a dumbbell is not evenly distributed like that of a barbell, you have to resist the urge to lean towards the side that is working with the weight. Less stable = more core stability. ---
-SINGLE ARM STRENGTH: just about everyone has one arm that is stronger than the other, or one side that does more work. Does one of your arms chicken wing on a muscle up? When a bench press gets heavy, does one arm lock out faster than the other? Dumbbells don’t let you use one side to help the other. They don’t allow you to compensate for your weaker side. They force you to use each side equally, working on imbalances between limbs. Work your weaknesses. ---
-SHOULDER STABILITY: the dumbbell in the overhead position doesn’t allow you to use tension (rotating your hands on the bar or pulling the bar outwards/apart) to stabilize or keep it overhead. The dumbbell forces you to use your shoulder stabilizers in the correct way or the weight will not stay overhead. This will translate over to healthier shoulder mechanics with a barbell.
