It's Monday and the last full of our holiday in Italy 🇮🇹

Managed to find a private studio in Bergamo that had dumbbells going all the way up to 14kg #blessed.
-
Dynamic full body workout, lots of HIIT and finished up with about 40 minutes of cardio 🏃‍♂️

The exercises that will give you the most bang for your back in regards to building your back are 🔻 Deadlifts or a Deadlift variation (Conventional, Sumo, Rack Pulls) 🔻 Some kind of a Barbell Row (Pendlay, Power, Yates) 🔻 Some kind of a Pull-Up (Wide Grip, Neutral Grip, Chin-Ups, Assisted, Weighted) .

Pull movements that are performed with your palms facing away from you will target more width in your back while movements where your palms face in towards each other will emphasize more back thickness

The back exercises I perform besides deadlifts are Pull-Ups (Both weighted and just Bodyweight) , Close-Grip Pulldowns, Seated Rows with an Underhand Grip, and Wide Grip Cable Pullovers. Watch my Instagram Stories I’ll often post demonstrations of these exercises. I use a different grip attachment and different hand placement for each exercise to ensure a lack of redundancy in the workout and to hit my back from as many angles as possible when I’m training it.

For back and all other muscle groups you should be performing the exercises you have the best mind-muscle connection with, have the easiest time progressing on and ultimately just enjoy doing the most. Regardless of what’s “optimal” and what gives you the MOST bang for your buck, the best exercise, best diet, best workout routine etc etc is what you can stick to, make long term progress on and ENJOY doing over and over again week after week without quitting 💪🏽 Sustainability is the 🔑 to success . I’m really hoping all of the kettlebell zealots see this post so they can tell me how much of an idiot I am for not giving kettlebells 5s across the board.

Guys, kettlebells are great, calm down. But…uh, they actually didn’t create world peace and cure cancer from what I understand.

Anyways, I decided to take some popular training implements and rate them in terms of their effectiveness. Of course, this is just my opinion - and there are certainly other tools out there you could use. These are some of the most common ways to train.

I didn’t put the totals in the graphic - so in terms of total rating, here is your rundown:

Dumbbells come out on top in terms of their overall effectiveness for strength, metabolic training and muscle building. To boot, they’re pretty joint-friendly, cost-effective and are great for home gyms. If I were to invest my money in any type of training tool, it would be dumbbells hands down.

That being said, barbell training is a bit more effective for progressive overload, and if you simply don’t have a lot of money to invest in equipment right now, the TRX is your best bet because of it’s versatility.

To quote Johnny Cash (I know it's not his song): "I hurt myself today." Actually, more like I hurt myself often over a period of several months. Not intentionally, but through thousands of reps of presses, pulls, throws, and whatever else one can do inside (not to mention everything outside) the gym. All this movement can wear down the shoulders over time, and a good way to help repair and strengthen those shoulders, as well as improve overall #posture are Wall Angels.

Wall Angels are a simple enough movement that are used to help pull the shoulders and neck back into a neutral position, helping to alleviate "text neck" or any forward lean of the upper spine. They also can increase shoulder #mobility and help to relieve pain onset from an injured rotator cuff muscle (which is my issue).
___
To do this exercise, stand or sit with your back flat against a wall, with your hands out by your side at a 90 degree angle. Pull your shoulders back and together, while keeping your hands, forearms, and wrist in constant contact with the wall. With your breath, take an inhale, then exhale and slowly extend your arms overhead. On your inhale, slowly lower back down into your starting position. Do this for a few sets of 8 to 10 reps to really warm those shoulders up and begin increase that mobility.

One thing to note, if you have trouble bringing your arms back behind as you start this exercise, you may need to focus on extending the arms without trying to touch the wall first, then progress toward making contact.

Simple as that! Now give it a try and see how those shoulders feel afterward. Y'all got this!
