Dragon's Treasure: Dragons Awakening Book 1 by Maya Starling has a story that I thought would be predictable, but boy was I surprised. The intensity of the story and the deep development of the characters drew me in and I did not want to stop reading at all. The story follows Olivia and Kaden, two very different people from very different kinds of places, but fate has brought them together. Terrified and tired of her family’s pressure, Olivia runs away from her family into the forest and tries to take refuge in a cave, only to find out that she is sharing this cave with a dragon.
Scared of being eaten, she has no idea that the dragon is a somewhat gentle creature that she should not worry about. Kaden, the dragon, is longing for companionship. He lives his centuries alone and now he has Olivia. However, soon the two of them will realize that their respite is short-lived. There is a Prince who is out to kill the dragon and take Olivia away. What can these two do? Who is Kaden? Is he destined to be killed and is Olivia destined to be confined again?
Like I said, the novel is amazing. The element of romance was spot on and I hated the Prince (plus he did not have many redeeming qualities). I loved the fact that the story built over time, the story was fast paced, but not too fast. I loved the fact that the two main leads had time to build their relationship because, otherwise, it would not have fitted with the narrative or with the characters. A really awesome read.
