The day Olivia was born was the day we found out she had Down Syndrome...It was one of the hardest days of my life. The AFP screen during the pregnancy and all ultrasounds were completely normal. As an OBGYN, I know very well that the screening test is not 100% accurate, but I never thought it would happen to us. The pain, the grieving, the fear was so intense...and so unnecessary. Look at my beautiful girl...I wish I would have given her the proper welcome into this world, the one she deserved. I wish I would have known immediately how perfect she was. So, for all new mothers to a child with Down Syndrome, or any other special needs...it’s human to be sad, to grieve. Everything will get easier and everything will be okay. Your child will teach you more than you can ever imagine. I’d love to hear how you felt when your child was born...and how you are doing now. #downsyndrome #downsyndromeawarenessday #theluckyfew #momblogger #specialneedsmom #upsyndrome

Zoe and Raquel are getting ready to kick off the first Teen Leadership Council today at 4:45pm. This council is open to all teens and is an inclusive program. This means siblings, friends from school and family members are all welcome! We will have ambassadors help facilitate the meetings and will meet quarterly for a bunch of fun! Email us at the link in bio for more info.

I have always had a big soft spot for adults and children with Down Syndrome! So often people avoid them or stare at them, or bully them because they are different! I called this little girl Joy! That's what she radiates! She's wearing her princess dress and playing with friends! Kids with Down Syndrome enjoy a lot of the same things kids with out Down Sydrome do! The next time you see someone with Down Syndrome, try smiling, or saying hi! You may find that they really aren't scary, and more like you and I then you ever imagined💓

This is painted with acrylics on a reloved canvas. A current work in progress! Thanks for reading!

Every time I see this trailer I get all choked up and teary eyed! I was lucky enough to be a guest at this very special wedding last March. Congrats to my cousin Angel and his beautiful bride Christina, who just got back from their honeymoon in Spain! Can’t wait for season 4 of Born This Way on A&E!
