Gave the Sartell track girls a peek into specific strength training today. We started with a Bosch sequence, moved into a quarter squat and assisted jump superset, and finished with power step ups and some sprints!

FORREST YOGA FOUNDATIONS TRAINING DAY 18: I decided today that Forrest Yoga is like bubblegum medicine. Delicious and sweet and you don't really know how it's going to help you but then after twisting and bending and breathing for a lot of minutes, you feel like you again. It's brilliant to recognize that there can be so much joy and play in the challenge of healing sometimes. All of the sudden your entire perspective is literally flipped upside down in a handstand and there aren't any problems on this side of the world. I walked into class today and had decided that it would not and could not help me and my brain, but somehow by the end I felt like an entirely new human who just got to fix herself by doing a practice she actually enjoys coming back to each day. The work today was that it took my entire two hour practice to get to that state of stability, I wanted to check out for the first 105 minutes this morning. My body feels good and my heart feels lighter because of the sweet medicine. Aho.

Really strict full range of motion Military style head up push-ups still the most demanding! I remember my Dad doing push-ups at the Navy base pool and I remember doing push-ups in Jr. High. I did 100s and 100s in both Bootcamps... what I love about push-ups I can get off the ground in a heartbeat, what I hate is they were used for punishment... so lots of folks were turned off. Metaphorically, the push-up is about "pushing away" from what gets you down or doesn't serve you... and that determination to not bed down with what is against your best interests makes you stronger. A couple weeks ago I posted about the importance of stretching our hamstrings, with the promise that I'd post about strengthening as well. Here's a little routine you can do at home - no fancy equipment necessary...so no excuses.
1) Begin by warming up the hamstrings with an easy contraction by kicking heels toward your butt. (1 min)
2) Pilates bridge lifts are intended to work the lower posterior side (hammies and glutes), so be mindful to not go into a yoga bridge. Keep your frontal ribs in, belly button to spine, and tail bone pulling toward heels. Lift/lower slow x 20, pulse at top x 50. Then work on single leg bridges with one leg straight to the sky (slow and pulse).
3) All 4s hamstring curls - each leg gets 10 slow curls and 25 pulses. Maintain core engagement.
4) Bridge/hamstring curls with a towel. Place a small towel under your heels (on hardwood floors); you can also use a paper plate (which works better on carpet). Lift hips, dig heels in, and push the legs away. Draw the legs back using the strength of the hamstrings rather than momentum. Do 10 total.
*Repeat the sequence x 3 (minus the warmup exercise).

It's a little late for #motivationmonday but here it is. I took this picture on Friday night at 2am (after we had both worked our full time day jobs) We needed to finish up some small tweaks to fine tune the newest model's pivot. Saturday we were taking the target down to Alabama Precision to demo and get some feedback so we wanted things to be as perfect as we could get. -
Starting a business and pursuing your ideas isn't easy. You're going to have late nights. It's going to take more effort than you think. We talk all the time about the big facility and employees we'll have one day, the things we want to accomplish and the fun we hope to have in and outside of business. But right now we're two guys working in our garages and busting our asses to get our products into all y'all's hands. And that's ok. -
And BTW the demo went great, we got some awesome feedback. We are on track to get this up for sale at the end of next month if things go... Sorta smooth. -

So the result of really kicking up my back workouts is starting to pay off....
