Kate: “But you know what's interesting? I think sometimes when people say that you can't do that or it wouldn't work was actually the beginning of something that made me think ‘Oh, so this must be quite interesting then’. Because in a way, I think you have to make things that you like. And if somebody says that they don't like it... it's challenging your own thoughts of whether you really think it's any good or not, and if you really do think it's good, even if people say they don't like it... there's maybe this sense in there that maybe it's not right yet.
But that doesn't mean it's not good.
That what's good about having people around you who were quite critical.” Right, so sometimes the criticism can be really positive thing then?
Kate: “Yes.” Even though you got you this team of people, this support network of people you need around you, it's in no way a democracy.
It's your record. And you kind of make your own decision absolutely.
I mean, you write it and you produce, it is entirely her vision in the end.
Kate: “Yes. And that's what's the buzz for me.
I don't think I could work with a producer, I'd find it terribly infuriating.
I just wouldn't like it.” (from an interview with Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2, 5 August 2006)
She would find it “terribly infuriating”! 😂
