Even when on vacation, TWC staff can’t help but aid in the rescue of an animal in need - from Sara Duffus-Martin’s rescue of a cormorant in distress on her trip in California, to Scott (Scotty) Wight lending a hand in saving this dolphin in Cape Cod!
Scotty and his wife Teresa were taking a drive along the shore in Wellfleet, MA when they saw a wildlife rescue van parked in a dead end street near a large sea wall. His immediate instinct was to pull over and help – but he never thought he’d witness a beached dolphin in a desperate situation! The International Fund for Animal Welfare was on scene, and once Scotty offered his assistance and experience as a TWC employee they happily accepted – turns out they are supporters of TWC too! At the top of the sea wall, he helped to place the Atlantic white-sided dolphin in a sling on a custom built cart with large “sand buggy” wheels and a foam platform. The biggest challenge was to move the dolphin up the large wall, which had very steep steps! Together they pushed the cart to the rescue trailer, where the #dolphin was immediately given fluids. He’s now in caring hands after swimming into the bay and becoming stranded when the tide went out, and will be released back into the ocean soon.
Thank you Scotty and @action4ifaw for this act of kindness in helping an animal in need!
