"Learning to switch off- so important for your dogs mental well being!" Most trainers and owners are brilliant at creating excitement, very few appreciate or understand the importance for a learned /conditioned off switch.
A down stay is more than just an obidence exercise, it's a way to rewire your dogs mental frame of work.
When doing a down stay, start my working on the 3 D's. Distance, Distraction, Duration.
Duration will play an important part for what we are trying to achieve. You need to wait till your dog is in a calm frame of mind before you move on to the next exercise.
If you always leave a down stay when your dog is calm, your dog will start to associate a down with "calmness"
Why not work on your dogs down while you meditated and work on your calmness too ✌ (Just remember, the rules need to be clear... said dog never leaves down unless invited out, and you never invite dog out of down till calm. Consistency is Key)
