The landscape of this area is something I still find fascinating. It differs greatly from anything I experienced growing up in the Midlands.
I began to write the introduction to this body of work a few days ago, and I recounted the first day I journeyed through North Woolwich.
My impression of London had been formed by my visits to central and north London. This industrious landscape was new to me. I couldn’t understand how factories and airports could be so close to the city centre, and so close to where people live.
This, as I have learnt, is because of laws passed in the 19th century that forced factories away from the centre of London to improve air quality. The factories location encouraged the movement of the workforce, and so Silvertown and North Woolwich became more populated. #fujipro400h #documentingbritain #uk #eastlondon #london #pentax67 #documentaryphotography #tateandlyle
