Started this monster tat today. Emotional one for sure. Not only was this Jared’s first tattoo. It is a memorial for his father, the late great Jim Clayburn. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome so far and the fact that I get the privilege of doing this for him. Jim & I had planned to do a tattoo this fall/winter and unfortunately the universe did not give us the opportunity to do it, so it is an honor to do a tattoo in his memory, on his awesome son Jared.
Lots of symbolism within the drawing. Jim and I actually met through Mixed Martial Arts about 10 years ago, and MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu were a huge part of his life. Jared told me he wanted to incorporate that into the design without having it look corny...so I turned the divers helmet face into an octagon. Jim was also a huge fan of The Watermark Brewery (who isn’t?!) and would regularly be there hanging out. In fact the last conversation I ever had with Jim was at The Watermark. 195 was his mug number and Jared though it would be fitting to put that into the design as well. The octopus will be purple for that Red Wings love.
Thank you so much brother. I really appreciate you letting me do this for you, it was a fantastic time hanging out today and I cannot wait to finish it.
We miss you Jim...always 🙏🏻🖤
