"Racial diversity of LGBTQ characters remains an area of concern. Of the 70 LGBTQ characters counted on streaming originals, 77 percent were white. All three platforms tracked here – broadcast, cable, and streaming originals – lacked LGBTQ characters of color." - @glaad in their 'Where We Are on TV Report - 2017' report.
We need more South Asian women in-front of and behind the camera to tell our diverse set of experiences, so we’re extremely excited for Surina & Mel which shows us South Asians in a very different light than we are usually portrayed on TV, while also being able to appeal to a wide audience!
And double excited as our very own lead actor and producer Leah Khambata @lkhambata associated produced this Pilot as well! 😃
