On #NationalSelfieDay, we encourage you to practice safe selfies. Please, even if you catch yourself looking pretty good in that side view mirror, do not take selfies while driving. You're putting every other driver, passenger and pedestrian on the road at risk, including your family and friends. #selfiesafely #drivingselfie #driving #drivinghome #drivingtowork #100deadliestdays #distracteddriving

The National Safety Council has found that night diving is three times more likely to involve a fatal collision than in the day. Stay alert at night to ensure the safety of yourself and others.

Thanks to Tolko Industries Ltd. & Mistik Management Ltd. for inviting us to present our new truck driver seminar to their drivers and summer students these past three days in beautiful Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. My co-speaker, Mark Andrews, and I appreciate the kind comments from participants as well as their openness in sharing experiences. Everyone shares the same goal of increasing road safety to ensure we all get home safe at the end of each day.

We've just arrived in Big River, SK to deliver a fourth seminar for Tolko tomorrow morning and then finishing up with this week's final one in Prince Albert on Friday.

Details on this popular new seminar will be available online soon. In the meantime, learn more about our custom seminars: http://diad.tirf.ca/DIADBrochure #driving #distracteddriving #safetyfirst #safedriving #workplace #safety #forestry #Saskatchewan #presentation #speaker #gethomesafe

Did you Know? At 60mph, a vehicle will travel the length of a football field in just 5 seconds, which is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting.

Meet @middleagedhiker Heidi! “My name is Heidi, and I'm 45. I'm a transplant to Utah, and 6 years ago I made a goal to spend more time in the mountains and make hiking a priority. That summer, my family was on our way to a new hike when we were hit head-on by a distracted driver going too fast around a blind curve. I braced my feet, and when the center console hit my leg, my leg moved but my foot didn't. Needless to say, I didn't hike or walk the rest of the summer. Or the next. (I have the whole story with pictures on my blog). Two years ago I had my ankle fused. This is the first year I really feel ready to make hiking a priority again. My goal is to summit Mt Timpanogos in August. It's not Kilimanjaro by any means, but it's 8 miles to the top. Hiking now is proving to myself that I can overcome my injury and reach big goals. It's a sign that it's not too late for me to get into the best shape of my life. It's a celebration and a looking forward to the next half of my life.” Check out her blog at: themiddleagedhiker.com

I hope everyone's been out enjoying the weather as much as we have, as is evidenced by my dirty feet! I know that everything we do on our phones is very fun and seemingly important, but with the weather being nicer, more people are out on foot, bikes and motorcycles. Please remember that no matter how fun or funny or important seeming whatever you're doing on your phone is, it is so much more important to keep your eyes on the road!. My dirty feet and the cute paws of my puppy Addie would look very different were it not for a very close call a few minutes ago. We were crossing Alabama and there was a driver that did not look up and continued to accelerate until he was just a few feet from contacting us. He was looking at his phone and all I could see while I was trying to find his eyes to tell him to slow down, was the top of a red baseball cap. He barely braked and without doubt would have hit us both had I not been fortunate enough to get us out of the way in time. Thankfully, no one was injured, and hopefully, it was a gentle lesson for the driver. Sorry for the incredibly long post but this was just too close of a call to skip the #PSA

I'm not above reproach when it comes to #distracteddriving, as I'm sure most of us aren't. But please keep in mind what you're risking when you choose to focus on your phone rather than piloting several thousand pounds of steel.

Another 5 car accident in Sharon, this time on Route 1 Southbound in front of Mick Morgan’s. The Fightin’ 4-12 responded to this in the middle of roll call. This one was caused by inattention and speed, and amazingly only 2 operators were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, but this could have been so much worse. Please, put the phone down and monitor your speed, especially during rush hour. We are out all over town looking for violators, and we find a lot, but we can’t be everywhere all the time. Believe me, we’d rather write a warning or a cite for speed than fill out an accident report on top of citations. Drive safe, everyone!
