The Cure released their eighth album "Disintegration" in May 1989. It has been referred to as the "culmination of all the musical directions The Cure were pursuing over the course of the '80s." Disintegration is what made the world fall in love with The Cure. This album is full of anthemic tunes, huge drum tones and three-minute intros. Seriously, almost every song on this record has a 2-3 minute intro and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's the apex representation of Robert Smith's pop-sensibility and raincoat/pre-goth youth. Accessible and vulnerable. I got a chance to see The Cure at Coachella back in 2004. It was epic and awe inspiring. The image of Robert Smith's massive hair is still burned into my brain. The cameras would try to zoom in on his face but his hair filled a majority of each shot.
Let your bangs down on this beautiful Sunday and take this historic record for a spin.
