In late 1948, Scotty was chosen to play Clark Gable’s son, Paul Kyng in “ANY NUMBER CAN PLAY” (1949). Scotty was 19 when he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving when he crashed his car into another vehicle. (I will address this incident in more detail next month). You can read in the 2nd photo that Mr Gable & the movie execs still wanted Scotty for the role. However, Scotty DID NOT appear in the film (The role was later given to Darryl Hickman), but his PHOTOGRAPH did, as seen in this screenshot from the movie! (If the photo looks familiar, just check out my IG icon). I do not know the exact reasons why Scotty did not complete this movie. He appeared in “BATTLEGROUND” instead, which was filming at the same time Mr Gable’s movie was.
Remembering “Mr Hollywood”, Clark Gable on the 58th anniversary of his passing at age 59.
