From 4/1/15 till today. This journey isn't pretty. Last yr I almost flushed my meds down the toilet because I was tired. Tired of losing the battle between my thoughts and my body. Doing what I'm supposed to do and still not losing a lb. I had to change my thoughts. I had to stop looking for satisfaction on the scale and my jeans. I had to learn to do what I do to function because my body doesn't know what to do with extra insulin. I had to learn to find victory in consistency. This yr after being a slave to cardio, I started lifting and I developed a new love and appreciation for the skin I'm in. I'm about to get off that med I almost flushed down the toilet....undefeated. I say this all to say it's not just about progress, but staying consistent with the process. Be encouraged #t2d #curvyfitness #plussizefitness #diabeticpost #naturaldiabetes

After a night out, I'm quite proud of this reading. Not very often it's that good after lots of alcohol and a takeaway! #diabeticpost#8.3#reading#17years#type1#diabetic

Not may, WILL. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

I just want everyone not in this situation to understand what it would be like to have a life threatening illness such as #type1diabetes. Where the ONLY thing keeping you alive is this vial of #insulin.
.
But this single vial of insulin costs around $200-$400 without insurance and you may need 1-3 more vials just to get through a month. But depending on your premium costs, deductibles, and copayments, you could be coming out of pocket for a huge sum of it.
.
Now keep in mind that pharmaceutical companies are continuing to hike up the prices for this medication that keeps adults (like myself) and children alive. Due to the high cost many families are suffering financially, diabetics are rationing their insulin that can lead to complications or death, and it's forcing people to have to choose between food or insulin to stay alive.
.
I hope that everyone will share this because millions of lives depend on this. It's literally life or death. We need more awareness, we need justice, and for price gouging of life sustaining medications to end.

DAY 21: Goals
An ongoing diabetic goal of mine will always be to lower my a1c. A few months ago, my a1c was 7.8 and my goal was to have it in the 6 range. My most recent a1c came back as 6.9! Now my new goal is to have it at 6.4. I guess we'll see next month if that is achieved! (Maybe not since I've had many bad days lately) ๐Ÿ™ˆ But I'm still hopeful it'll be less than 6.9 ๐Ÿ™Œ *fingers crossed*
Another goal of mine is to finally get a pump! I've been trying to get one since May but the process has been a major struggle. ๐Ÿ˜ญ Any advice on this and how to start the process would be greatly appreciated!

DAY 12: My Diagnosis Story

First photo is me before my diagnosis, 70lbs lighter. Dang you hypothyroidism!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ December 2, 2014. A few weeks prior to that day, I showed the typical signs and symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes; excessive thirst, drastic weight loss, feeling weak, and frequent urination. I was also majorly dehydrated. My mom started to become worried about me, but I thought nothing of it. She kept telling me that she wanted to make an appointment with my pediatrician but I told her to hold back on that until the semester was over. (I was a freshman in college and finals were the week after.) After venting her feelings and emotions about me to her co-worker/friend, she decided to go into "mommy mode" and when she picked me up from the train station that Tuesday, we went directly to my doctor, who later told us to go to ER. A nurse checked my blood sugar and told the ER doctor that it was over 500. It was 718!! He told my parents, and I quote, "umm.... yeah....she has diabetes," and then left. A totally heartless way to break such horrible news to someone! lol. That evening, I was moved to the ICU and stayed there until Friday afternoon. I missed my final exams the following week and made them up some time after. (It's so awkward doing a presentation in front of an audience of just 1)! But it was still a rough year, academically, balancing school work and all the appointments with my Endo and nurses and dieticians. Not a very interesting diagnosis story but I hope that sharing my story will make others become more aware of very basic symptoms. They might be more than just a silly head cold. ๐Ÿ˜Š #happydiabeticchallenge

DAY 8: Hump Day Blood Sugar
Seems like a typical day for me lately. For about two weeks my BGs have been like a roller coaster, up and down and up and down again....๐Ÿ˜Œ Going to bed at 197 with 2u correction ๐Ÿ™„ #happydiabeticchallenge .

DAY 7: CGM?? A CGM is a continuous glucose monitor attached to the body that automatically checks your blood sugar every 5 minutes. I went through a week long trial with #dexcom and I absolutely loved it. (Yes, in that 2nd pic, it was holding on for dear life with all that tape ๐Ÿ˜‚) Hopefullyd that piece of diabetes technology to my management sometime in the near future. But as for now, I'm doing things old school! No CGM for me just yet. #happydiabeticchallenge .
