Today is the last day of Diabetes month so I'm throwing it back to the 3 part video series I did last year with @officialwata on the prevention and treatment of Type2 Diabetes.
If you missed it, the big take away points are that whole, real, fresh food is the most potent medicine you can use to prevent, treat AND reverse Type 2 Diabetes. Avoid highly processed, factory manufactured food, exercise regularly, prevent and manage stress, sleep 7-8 hours every night and drink 2-3 liters of water everyday.
One body, one life. Respect it 💋 #DiabetesMonth #Type2Diabetes #Awareness #Prevention #KampKamila @officialwata

November is National #DiabetesMonth and did you know that one in 11 Americans has #diabetes? In #NM diabetes affects approximately one in eight adults. Additionally, over half-a-million New Mexicans live with diagnosed and undiagnosed #prediabetes. Please join me and @AmDiabetesAssn in increasing the sense of urgency around this disease by raising awareness and sharing your story. #ThisIsDiabetes

On the 14th of February 1987, my mum was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the young age of 16. On the 9th of June 2016 at the age of 17, I was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. During my diagnosis there were many dramas and tears but I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help and guidance of my amazing mother who had to manage her diabetes all on her own at such a young age. She has taught me how to maintain and control this disease and she made the entire journey so much easier. Her encouragement and support is all I could have ever asked for and I wish one day we can say that we used to have diabetes. Until then we both will take each day as it comes and live life to the fullest 💕💖💞 #diabetesmonth #type1diabetes #diabeticsarenaturallysweet

Hellooo,Today's question is: differences of type 1 and 2 diabetes?
-
Type 1 Diabetes is a disorder in which the body does not produce insulin (a hormone that aids in moving sugar from the blood to the cells). This type of diabetes can be due to a virus or autoimmune disorder in which the body does not recognize an organ as its own and attacks it. In this case the body attacks an organ known as the pancreas where insulin is made. -
Type 2 Diabetes occurs when insulin that the body produces is less efficient at moving sugar out of the bloodstream. Some sugar is moved out of the blood, just not as effectively compared to a person with normal insulin efficiency. High blood sugars are a result of this.

Hellooooo, Today's question is:
How does the insulin pump work?
You have a piece of plastic or needle inside of your body, through there you get insulin on you body every few hours depending on what you ate and how many carbs you had.

Hellooo, Today's question is: How do you develop type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or when the pancreas stops producing enough insulin. Exactly why this happens is unknown, although genetics and environmental factors, such as excess weight and inactivity, seem to be contributing factors.

Helloooo,Today's question is: What is the situation happening in Venezuela?
-
UK citizens with diabetes will not be entitled to any free medication services while in Venezuela. Securing comprehensive medical insurance will be essential in order to obtain even basic treatment.Blood testing equipment is widely available at medical supplies stores, as well as larger pharmacy stores. Urine testing kits s less available, but you should be able to obtain urine testing strips at diabetes associations in Venezuela.

Hellooo, Today's question is: I have red bruises and marks on my body, do you know what it is?
I'm no doctor but your bruises look like, neucrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorumis a rare chronic and granulomatous skin disorder that affects 0.3% of diabetic patients. Although the etiology and pathogenesis of NLD is still controversial, it is thought that microangiopathy has an important role. If you have any marks like this you should get it checked with a doctor. For anyone wondering we did some research using the person's characteristics, this is not a medical diagnosis,if you think you have this or something similar you should call your doctor and consult it with him.

Hello, Today's question is: Can diabetes have an affect on skin?
A:In rare cases, people with diabetes develop skin problems, such as blisters that resemble burn blisters. These blisters can occur on the fingers, hands, toes, feet, legs, or forearms. Diabetic blisters usually are painless and heal on their own.

The whole process of diagnosis, starting treatment and the overwhelming prospect of what you have to learn along the way has been fairly surreal. I then wonder why I have this strange, unexplainable feeling of being grateful for this - almost like being given a really shitty gift that's not so bad after all (even if it is for life!) I know deep down this life change is eventually going to have a positive impact beyond what I ever imagined.
These are the positives of being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes I have experienced already (I was diagnosed just before Christmas): • No binge drinking since New Years Eve - that's a lot of pressure off my liver in the past 3 months!
• More exercise - no hangovers or tiredness stopping me from going to the gym most days, or walking, or other physical activity. • A better diet - I've always had a great diet but I've taken it up a notch! I'm feeling very nourished and healthy right now. • More time - I suddenly have more time on my hands... I'm not sure why. I still haven't figured out how to fill this with something positive but I'm working towards it. • More knowledge - non-diabetics have no idea what diabetics have to know... I was a typical example of this before diagnosis (even though I have grown up with diabetic family members). I'm only just scratching the surface but I am soooo much more educated than I was pre-diagnosis. • More empathy - I feel like I am a better person for this. I feel kinder and more understanding, not only toward diabetics and what you all endure, but toward people suffering in general... with anything. • More money in the bank - I typically haven't been a great saver in the past but suddenly a lack of nights out has created financial gain for me! Now I can really channel my energy into saving for something special. The prospect of this contributes to my overall happiness. • Authenticity - this is a difficult thing to explain, but I feel more aligned with my purpose... even though I haven't quite figured out what that is yet...
• More informed - I actually have time to read the paper on weekends and think about things more deeply than before without being hungover.
Continues...

'Rustic' is probably the word I'd use to best describe my cooking. I stick with simple but tasty. Lunch today is the easiest Spanish omelette - red onion, chorizo, capsicum, cheese and eggs. Because it's Sunday. High fat, low carb, simple, yummy! 🍳

99% dark chocolate with no sugar (just a little bit of vanilla). I love dark chocolate... I also love milk chocolate but looking at the sugar content makes me realise it's not worth having it regularly 🍫🍫🍫 and it's worth the few extra bucks to get a good quality chocolate 👌🏻

I haven't felt sorry for myself once during this journey because I actually do not see the point! It's only motivated me to find better ways of doing things 💃🏼

First 'Aha Moment' - the difference between phase 1 and phase 2 insulin production when we eat. The realisation that even if we use a fast-acting insulin, it will never cover phase 1, therefore creating dangerously high blood sugars that lead to awful long term side effects when carbs are consumed 😳

I've been trailing 3 meals a day since my specialist appointment. As a Type 1, I will eventually be on injections before each meal and as a grazer, I thought it might be helpful to start weening myself off all the snacks 😂 I usually have between 5 and 6 small meals a day so this has been really hard for me. A big low GI breaky is important to get me through til lunchtime - this is oats (low GI), flaxseed meal (omega 3's), chia seeds, blueberries (low GI), natural peanut butter (I just researched this and it's low GI 😓) and cinnamon. Cinnamon has amazing properties that help reduce blood glucose levels and I have read a couple of teaspoons a day can be really helpful. •
