P r o c e s s p i c s !
I took some sewing in high school and learned mending/basic stitching from costuming and just asking people, and know how to make accessories and do details, but actual garment-making for practical use and full-on construction has never been my strong suit—I’m more suited/learned in modifying or designing.
I get how things work (I was a fashion major for a short time at my last school) and know practical-vs-pretty from having to work with a low budget in theatre and working at fashion shows, but though I can sketch, draw, and ideate, when it comes to patterning and construction it’s always been a struggle making things happen from my brain to my hands (I’ve usually just had to design and direct stuff). However, finding and modifying a tracksuit for Chopin (as it’s really particular fit in the anime and design) proved to be a problem (yes, I tried it and it did not work out), and I’m super particular about tailoring as that makes or breaks a costume or outfit (I style and edit photos and that’s such a big thing once you know about and start noticing it it’s crazy). Being a very big believer of “if you want something done right, do it yourself,” I decided to take the plunge and look online for a pattern and just make the suit portion from scratch. In the picture set is the pattern I used, my sketch of what I needed, and reference from ClassicaLoid. I was super nervous to do this as I had to 1) modify the pattern as it was for a attach fabric 2) find a fabric ASAP because the initial one I picked out was not the right kind (so instead of a sports nylon I ended up with a almost no-stretch poly satin in two colors) 3) have literally never made any sort of jacket before (only pants, dresses, DIY designs, and modifying) and 4) don’t have a zipper foot and have never done a sports zipper.
