‼️Don’t care about the tools, care about design thinking process!
Lately, I was talking a lot about the tools and resources in my UX design process.
.
❌But here is a thing: Please do think that good designer is measured with the level of advancement in using these tools.
🗻They are only a tip of an iceberg. Even when we’re talking about Graphic design
.
🤔The most important thing - is a thought process you put in any of your creation.
Do you know the phrase: Don’t work hard, work smart?
.
🤥It’s about it…you can spend 100h drawing amazing graphics and doing a motion designs, but at the end of a day for a business / a user it might not mean a thing. Just remember: Everything you do should make sense and at least answer the questions:
❓Why?
❓For whom?
.
Then the next question
❓How?
Is up for you to define. And yes, it can take ages to find the best working solution. It’s an iterative process
🕖Sometimes you feel the answer and it works. Most of the times - you test and you don’t see it’s working. Sometimes you have a bunch of experience in the niche and you know certainly the best solution
.
📚But it’s super important to make a research and to test before going into fancy and smooth details.
Otherwise - you build a solution on assumptions and its a HUGE risk
.
❌First of all, you’ll spend 100h on building it, secondly, the client will figure out that your message (or graphics or UX logic) don’t work and all that you’ve done was useless.
🆘For a client, this means: wasted time and resources, for you it means bad reputation and useless work.
.
Please, think of it from this perspective any time you start a project.
And trust me: tools means nothing without your research/ thinking/testing process
.
❤️Hope you’re having a blast today!

👉How to get started with UX design?
.
2 years ago when I moved to Georgia I was about to start teaching design
😱Can you only imagine how scary that felt for a fresh Master degree graduate?
I felt like a total imposter
💪And you know what? It’s ok. It’s a good sign that incentivises you to start learning more and proactively. So did I
.
📕The number of pages I’ve read that year was bigger than in all 8 years at uni.So here is a list of resources that affected me the most in the last 2-3years.
.
📖First of all I want to emphasize that you need to take a well-structures online/live course.
If you didn’t study any HCI basics - there is no way you’ll make sense of any great blogs or books. The Course gives you a fundamental that you can build on later.
.
📍Courses On Udemy:
Joe Natoli (UX and Webdesign master course)
Brendan Bolton-Klinger (Become a UX designer)
Free course: UX fundamentals at www.thegymnasium.com/courses/
.
📍Medium.com accounts for more practical advices:
Nick Babich
UX collective
UX planet
ux-clan-flow (on russian)
.
📍YouTube channels for real case studies and live insights:
Flux: lifestyle of a freelancer. Very motivating
Marie Charlie: women in design: Very human
Sketch together: Very helpful for tool tips
Dann Petty: channel for design community
High Resolution: design thinking from TOP world designers

@Regranned from @anfisign - .
😓Recently my friend (a developer) was fired
And I started to wonder…What should the perfect working environment be like?
.
📕Companies cultures could be either more «task-based» or «relationships-bases» (an insight from the book «Cultural maps»)
⚠️ And the thing is many companies don’t support a healthy social environment and don’t care bout people and relationships.
The main goal for many businesses - is to grow and deliver. And I get it.
.
⁉️But what about the people who should provide and sustain the growth. Someone needs to take a human care of them.
Especially with Juniors. If a company hires a junior to work with an experienced team - ANY company have to consider to add an extra time to discuss the matters with the less experience mates.
🔨In the companies where managers consider juniors to grow per se: the culture is obviously broken.
I also feel that for potential talents - image of such companies should be publicly discussed by ex-workers. This is fair.
.
🤦‍♀️Actually, once I also felt that there was only a pressure on me to deliver without taking a time to explain me what and how should be delivered. That’s purely unhealthy and doomed to become a negative experience for both parties
.
🤔I cannot fully relate to this experience as I’ve never been an employee. But I wonder about your opinion. I’m creating own product company and we’re growing each week. And despite the fact that I’m freaking busy, I’m sure that it’s important to create a healthy social environment and find time to be open with every person in the team.
.
❓Can you describe your vision on the best company culture?

🧐😛Am I the last one at this? Here are the 5 random facts:
.
🙃1.I’m pretty much a nonconformist: Vegetarian from 3 years old, left handed and I hate mainstream stuff. If everybody’s talking about something - I’d totally skip it. For example Game of thrones. Ok, this challenge is an exception 😝
.
👍2.For a long time I’ve been a hitchhiker. I’ve traveled in 45 countries, whereas all the Europe I’ve traveled without any preparation. Just grabbed a cardboard table and went out of the city to catch someone to bring me somewhere :D If you check my backpack - it’s still full of felt-tip pens. Here’s my second IG profile, btw @anfisign_travels
.
🖌3.I didn’t plan to become a UX designer. I was pretty good at drawing, loved doing watercolor portraits and academic drawing classics. I worked as an interior designer till 21, but one day my friend invited me to a hachathon just for fun. Since that moment I did 8 hachathons as a participant and 1 as a mentor
.
🛌4.I’m extremely lazy person. Nonetheless, I work without weekends. Paradox? :D The fact that I don’t want to work later in my years drive me like a crazy to work now. I cannot say for sure, but per week I spend about 40h for design, 15h for communications and PM, 10h for side projects and IG and 5h for studying.
.
🎓5.I’ve been studying at University for 8 years. 4years for bachelor, 1y for Erasmus, 3y for my Master. Btw, I never ever worked at the office. Did I learn at Uni something important for my career? Barely. But I had a time of my life and a REAL youth full of crazy stories, found many close friends and learned soft skills. If you ask me : «Would I skip university and start directly a career?» I’d answer : «No way».
.
☺️😉Let me challenge you guys next:
@_atii, @adnanpuzic, @karina_shabunevich_design, @jeliazkovdsgn
✊Can’t wait to hear your stories

😥 Getting tired and weak
.
🤔I’ve noticed a very interesting thing, that probably applies mostly to the girls.
In the situation when I have to deal with a lot of unknown questions, issues or problems - I spend all reservations of my emotional bank to solve them.
⌛Especially when it happens under the deadline pressures.
.
📊For example If I have to answer financial questions (like projections or excel graphs of growth). Things I’ve never did or I lack a background of understanding, but I only have minuted to find an answer…It’ll take all my energy away
.
🤒The next morning I’ll always wake up broken and weak. Even if yesterday I did only 200 steps.
All my body would signal that I need a day off. (which will never happen, though)
.
😱The problem might be covered under the fact that women spend way more emotional energy in these situations: to panic, to get anxious, to get nervous and so on.
🛌At least I do feel so. One more fact, that was scientifically proven: females need to sleep 1h longer than males to recover enough their emotional bank
.
What do you think about it?
Did you even had moments of anxiety that would make you feel weak the next day?

⏳ The most precious asset we all have is Time
.
💸 With it we pay for experiences, emotions, impressions, skills, relationships, health, environment and so it goes on...
.
⚖ The way we spend time now will directly affect direction we want to succeed at. Every minute counts
.
🙄 This is so stressful to realise, that sometimes I feel like running away and do nothing with my time. Because I cannot bear the burden to decide where should I focus more of my time. .
😱 For a very long time this has been my biggest and the most heavy challenge in life. I want to travel, I want to meet people, I want to read books, I want to do public speaking, I want to have a lot of skills, I want my startup product to change the market situation, I want to be a great and responsible talent, I want healthy sustained relationships, I want to vlog, I want to cook, I want to watch movies, to teach others, to write articles, to have a corgi dog, to do sport and look good...And OMG, this is only a top on an iceberg
.
🤗 Meanwhile what I actually do always depends on what I feel (as freelancers have a luxury to decide on our own)
.
🤯 As a result, I’m so frustrated with my wishes priorities and with the fact that I do what I feel like, not what’s more important currently
.
🤔 Does this sound any familiar? Any tips on how to work on that issue?
.

🖥 🔍User Testing
.
Problem of the prototyping tools is that they don’t really allow user to figure out stuff. As soon as user notices the blue area, all the testing turns into a predefined path that (s)he follows because no one wants to looks stupid. 💁‍♀️And it’s barely possible to explain to the testing user that that’s a point of UT
.
☝️In a very digital 2018, InVision and Marvel become too easy for a user testing. That’s unfortunate for us, designers. Because those tools have done such a great work simplifying our process
.
🤓If I want to become a better designer I should turn to Framer and Webflow asap. But, Oh, God. Can I have some extra time and energy for everything that I think worth learning?
.

📘Hey, guys. Did anyone of you ever participated in Design Sprint?
💪The first sprint I did happened a year ago and I still think it’s the most efficient way to solve user problems fast and keep developing team motivated
.
😜I started to follow @ajsmartdesign those guys 3 months ago because they’re honestly obsessed with the Design Sprint! They genuinely teach you everything they know (and even nuances about how they work with their own clients!)
.
💫So I reccommend you to follow them as a great resource for learning about how the Sprint process. And in general how it helps you innovate quickly and iterate a product at lightning speed
.
PS. They also like to act a bit goofy too :D

👍 My first week went almost perfect: 19/21 planned tasks done. And it’s only 1st week which I spend feeling pretty lazy
That makes me quite hopeful and excited about the upcoming months
.
✏️To arrive to my weekly progress tracking I almost did «1 day design project» where I started with a mess in my head about what I need to achieve in 2018 up until the actionable plan with a defined schedule.
.
☝️It took me 4 tools and stages:

1. A-3 blank paper (for brainstorming)
2. Sketchbook (for clustering and sorting)
3. Google Calendar (for creating a schedule according to my biorhythms)
4. Trello (for productivity tracking.)
.
📖I’ve documented the whole process in the Medium article, which you can find in the link in my profile
.
❤️I hope you’re planning this year to be as exciting as mine
I’ll be sharing with you how I’m keeping up with the plan weekly ;)

«What it takes to be a UX designer in 2018?»
.
✏️ Yesterday I was scripting ideas for a new YouTube video
And I came to one pretty important conclusion which I want to share before shooting a video
📕In 2018 UX Designer is a storyteller
.
Just think of it…Every interface is a story
Storytelling and writing have never been so present in the design world. When you remove all styles, does your page still tell a cohesive, clear story?
.
📖Browsing a well-crafted interface is like reading a great story. Which means that every designer is a storyteller — whether you’re designing a landing page, a product page or a welcome email. When you design a page, you are essentially telling a story to your audience. Forget modules, column grids, iconography, for just a sec and think about the core of what you are trying to communicate
.
🔍In fact the last 3 months I was demanding from our CEO to find me a great copywriter for my startup. I simply didn’t «bear a burden» creating various messages for 5 targets we have. So in 2018 I heavily believe that we’ll see a new profession: UX writer. Or a heavy cooperation of UX designers with the copywriters.
.
🖌You can start your new project in 2018 with an exercise: Simply create a storyline in the text editor for your new client…Even before jumping into a design software.
Without all the visual clutter you can focus on the core of the message you are trying to communicate.
.
In 2018 it’s finally time to start writing☺️
.
💕BTW. I have 2 new dribble invites. Drop me your link to anfabog@gmail.com
.
#ux2018#2018design#prosuctdesigner#ux#ui#portfolio#comment#dribbble#designer#uxdesign #ux#userexperience #uxd#ui#uxprocess#ux101#designproject#productdesign#designthinking#meetingdesigners#uivivid #uxvivid #adobe #uicollections#dribbble#Dribbbler #writter #writtingskills #blogger #designerswednesday #designerstalk #dribbleinvite

.
💪Congrats with a day when we all start a new life. Traditionally, first days of the year - is a time to sit on the diet, start waking up early, start doing sport or whatever else we all wanted so long, but never had an occasion. Lucking, this year starts with a Monday 😉
.
✅ So happened that in 2016 I was a design trainer
✅ In 2017 full-time freelancer
.
But all those two years I was also working on my startup project part-time
✅ So 2018 I dedicate fully to my project, pushing back all freelancing projects.
I want to focus on 3 things this year:
📍My project
📍Profound learning education in Psychology, Technology and Innovation
📍Sports, yoga, swimming
.
⌛️ As you see...There isn’t much space left for clients and freelance life development.
In fact, last few month I felt a bit off with that, as I see that design moves into a screen less UX, less UI, more writing, more psychology, more ideation.
✏️Though, the clients who were reaching me were mostly looking for a UI designer. I realized clearly that it’s an issue to be a true UX designer remotely. Thus, my goal is to become a real and advanced product designer who knows every aspect of my own project, know it’s users and create unique experiences within something that is very close and important to me
.
👌A year of a product design is ON
.
.
❓Do you have a similar setting this year?

.
🔖Last year the same time I’ve printed out visit cards stating that I’m a designer for startups…
This year I’m ending up with the only one startup with a my name on the card
.
📉Honestly speaking, I only gave away about 3 visit cards as a freelancer. Of course, nowadays clients come from internet, but I also think that in 2018, I’ll minimize my freelancing life to the very minimum if not completely. Time will show. The plan is to stop taking clients from various projects, but to became a real product designer with a focus only on one product. Spanning all possible design aspects
.
📈The new business card from my Startup @travel_authentic is kinda a spacial one. On the conference in December I gave away a whole batch already…and based our plans and current visa procedures, I’ll need few more batches in the next 2 month. It’s going to be a veeeeery busy year
.
😜OMG, I’m so nervous and excited
.
