Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church- The church was organized in the 1880's. This Gothic structure was built in 1921. In it's early years it was also used as a school until a new one was built nearby. I dont know how long it's been since services were held here. #deserve2preserve

This magnificent midcentury residence was completed in 1966, and designed by Don Polsky as his family home (so you know it’s legit). Polsky studied under modern master, Richard Neutra. Truly of Omaha’s finest modern homes! The Indian Hills neighborhood is full of modern gems. #indianhillsomaha #deserve2preserve #thisplacematters #omaha #westof72nd #arch_daily #architecture #oldhouse #oldhouselove #archi_ologie #midcentury #midcenturymodern #midmod

Elm Park Rd - see link in bio

I about lost my mind when I saw this incredible midcentury home in Elmwood Park last week. Everything about it is perfect! I have no complaints whatsoever. #deserve2preserve #thisplacematters #omaha #oldhouse #oldhouselove #midcentury #midcenturymodern #midmod #elmwoodparkomaha #eastof72nd #breezeblocks #globelight

Omaha has a sweet collection of midcentury buildings and homes, both large and small. Pictured is one of my favorites. Swipe for interior pics! #deserve2preserve #thisplacematters #omaha #eastof72nd #elmwoodparkomaha #midcentury #midcenturymodern #midmod

This is the Sellers Mansion, a 7200 square foot Italianate style structure which was built in 1868 for Matthew Sellers, who was the president of a railroad company. It’s been vacant since the 1990s and has serious damage (zoom in to look at the porch and roofline). Apparently a developer called Ernst Valery Investment purchased the property in 2017 for $10,000 with the intention of fixing it up and making it an apartment building. When I was there a guy who lived next door said some work was occurring but it wasn’t extensive. This is in a bad neighborhood, so hopefully it can be saved.

I've been quite fond of this home on Field Street for quite a while now. It was built in 1890, according to multiple online real estate sources. It sold for $70K last year, ten grand more than the asking price. The home is basically a shell, even though the original staircase appears to be intact (@curbed has photos of the interior in its Detroit section), and requires much time and investment.

Islandview, the neighborhood, is an area not to far from beautiful Belle Isle (hence the name) and is full of historic structures, ranging from rustic old farmhouses to exotic 1920s apartment buildings. It is also an area that will be receiving some much deserved attention in the very near future. #Detroit #Eastside #IslandviewDetroit #TheVillagesDetroit #RomanesqueRevival #VictorianArchitecture #archi_ologie #oldhouselove #casasecasarios #houses_ofthe_world #beautifulhouseoldandnew #deserve2preserve #TheAmericanHome #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #IGersDetroit #detroit_igers #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter #SavingPlaces #NikonD3400 #NikonNoFilter

The Concklin-Dern Residence. Originally Locaded at 711 East South Temple. This home was built in 1887 by Jeremia Concklin and sold 10 years later for $40k to John Dern, the home like many on Brigham Street had a ballroom on the 3rd floor and a large carriage house. During WWII the home was converted into several apartments to alleviate the housing shortage and much of the detailing was lost. The home also served as the offices for the Woodbury Corporation for a time. These photos show the house just before demolition in 1970.

A large Tudor Revival that is actually two residences hiding together as one. This sort of asymmetrical house design was a popular way for developers to give property owners the ability to live in less expensive but still beautiful and dignified houses. In the background you see the more modern Lefrak-built towers over the LIRR tracks, which were resolutely (but unsuccessfully) fought by Kew Gardens and Forest Hills Gardens (the Kew Gardens Civic Association and the Forest Hills Gardens Corporation) and their lawyer, Mario Cuomo, who went on to become NYS Governor in 1983. #ilovekew #tudortuesday #kewgardensny #tudorrevival #deserve2preserve .

My grandmother loved old houses. She couldn't get enough. She had portraits commissioned of the homes she owned with my grandfather, collected architecture guides with lovely illustrations, and supported the Batavia, NY historic society all the decades she lived there. I remember her knocking on strange people's doors and practically inviting herself to tea if she thought their house was charming. One summer when I was seven, my family sublet an apartment in Berkeley. My mom and I explored SF with gusto, armed with hand-me-down guidebooks my grandmother, a perpetual traveler, gave us. One day we decided to check out some of the self guided historic home tours in one of those books. We didn't think to check the publication date-- but the door was unlocked. Unfortunately, ownership of the house had changed, and the new occupant very much wanted to know why a strange woman and her young daughter were wandering around her downstairs hallway. 😳 We were mortified. Even accidental trespassing, didn't put a dent in how much I love to get lost in old neighborhoods and wander past all the pretty houses and wonder what lives they contain. I spent a whole Saturday in Eugene just perusing the lovely, bright bungalows in the Whit, and was enjoying myself so much I forgot to take photos. I did nab this one, though, of the @sheltonmcmurphey house. I couldn't go in because it was closed for a private event, but hopefully someday I'll have a chance to see the inside for myself. I might have inherited my grandmother's love of old charming homes, but not of barging in for tea 😊☕😂
