When I talk to people about their fitness goals, one of the #1 responses I hear is to get a "six-pack" or a "fit core." Now some people naturally have great abs, but the rest of us have to work really hard.
The above circuit is great for defining and toning your abs, but ONLY if you've also been burning off lower body fat and excess water weight with CARDIO and the PROPER diet.

Happy #fitfriday ! Earlier in the week I posted about using resistance bands as an alternative to dumbbells to build muscle mass. But, sometimes you just need a good, deep stretch and there's no one around to help with resistance. The bands are an excellent option here.

Regular stretching is vital to legthening and relaxing muscles and for helping with flexibility. In the pic, I'm doing some very simple upper body stretching, but the bands are giving me some much needed additional tension that I would normally depend on a workout partner for.
Decide on a few stretches that work for you, incorporate the bands and hold each stretch for 20 - 30 secs. Your muscles will thank you for it!πŸ‘ŒπŸ’― Let's go to work! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘”πŸ’ͺ #des2fit .

I'll say it loud for the people in the back... Resistance bands CAN be used to build muscle mass! The bands offer resistance without the dead weight that comes from dumbbells and other free weights. Now, I personally prefer dumbbells, but I often mix resistance bands into my program to add some variety when things feels stale or I need something portable. I also often start clients new to weight training on the bands, since they're generally safer than free weights.

My tips for using the bands are simple: 1) Focus on maintaining proper form -- not just for safety, but also to make sure you're getting adequate resistance.
2) Target 20 - 30 reps to per set given the resistance is generally lighter than what you would use with free weights.

Rise and Grind! One of the best moves for developing your upper body is push-ups. It's a move that really works your chest, shoulders and core using your own body weight (i.e. no gym nor equipment required.) I got three tips for getting a great pump with your push-ups:

1. Keep you back completely flat and activate your core.
2. Try quick "pulses" rather than going all the way up and down to activate your triceps and pump your chest.
3. Switch it up with different hand positions (e.g. I'm doing standard, diamonds, and clapping push-ups in the vid.)
