#fbf to 2 hours before weighing in at Nats. BW was 183lbs after the water cut. Lots of adjustments were made with training/nutrition leading into the meet, but the biggest factor was simply enjoying the process. Losing 12lbs in two days, dealing with setbacks in training, and keeping up with school wasn't easy, but that was the struggle I willingly signed up for. Don't complain or make excuses. Beltless PR today on skwattsss during today’s #humpday workout! After today’s strength work of split jerks, and the MetCon which was “Cindy” decided to work up to a heavy single and finished at 315. First time doing this weight beltless so that’s pretty cool! Could have stayed more upright coming back up but I’m happy with how this moved today! Bench from this morning felt really good. Hit 4 sets of 7 with 180 lbs on the bar @8 RPE. ・
Increasing intensity by using an RPE scale rather than straight percentages has really helped. If your strength has stalled I would highly recommend giving a RPE program a try.

Learned how to do butterfly pull-ups within the last 2 days, performing my first bar muscle ups today😆 I think I’m starting to get a hang of this whole CrossFit thing😅

After today’s strength work of triples on deadlifts and the MetCon consisting of clean and jerks and burpees box jumps I decided to work more on my butterfly pull-ups and also learned how to do muscle-ups for the first time! Managed to string 4 1/2 of them together in the video, with the first one being pretty ugly but reps 2-4 looking pretty solid.👌🏼 Really enjoying my training at the moment! It’s a different challenge every day that I look forward too! Have a great rest of your week everyone!

Volume - broken down into digestible pieces for you.
So you've been hittin the gym for a while now, and you want to get them gainz. Yes gainz with a z. How can we make sure we are getting these infamous “gainz”?

Whether you want to gain strength or gain muscle, you are going to need to do something to ensure you are gaining.
#
How do you do that you ask??? One way to do this is through actual increased volume. You may be thinking “volume? Wtf??? I gotta turn up my headphones for deeze gainz”. Well no that’s not what I mean.
#
Volume is the total amount of weight you’ve lifted.
Volume = reps x set x load. For example, if you do 135lbs for 10 reps and 2 sets, your volume is 2700lbs (135 x 10 x 2 = 2700).
#
So to increase volume you will either need to increase the weight, reps, or adding another set. By doing this you are putting more stress on the muscle causing your muscle to adapt to the new increased volume. Therefore your body will now know "holy crap he/she is doing more, we have to do something to be able to lift this."
#
You will now become bigger/stronger over time due to the increased volume. This will not happen over one night. It can take months to do this. But doing this is a good way to help make sure you will get those gainz.

Also decided to learn and practice self unrack. Simply because of consistency. By self unracking i can achieve what i exactly want and where the bar needs to be for the starting position. Also because in every meet the person giving the lift offs is different hence the inconsistency. I also believe that self racking can get a slightly faster start command as i don’t need to wait for the person giving the lift off to move away. Here’s a 100kg for a single.

In honor of my leg day today, it’s regarding lying leg curls. This exercise is great for isolating your hamstrings.

Make sure the pad is right under the calf muscle and right above the ankle. If the pad is on your calf muscles it is too high, if the pad is on your heels, it is too low.

When doing this try pointing your toes away from you instead of towards you. This makes the exercise harder so you may need to go lighter on the weight. This is to ensure you are not using your calves while doing this exercise.

Try to keep your body still and don’t swing the weight with momentum from your body. You can experiment with different tempos or with a pause at the top.

Squats been feeling juicy lately! Today we were working with 90% of our 3RM for sets of 3, that put me at about 260. We performed those every 3 minutes for 15 minutes (ended up 5 sets) before finishing the workout with a MetCon consisting of rowing, thrusters, and double-understand.

As for the squats, these looked and felt smooth, although the first couple reps were a little to much on my toes. The last rep ended up being the best rep! Looking back at some old videos of my squats, my bar path is 10x better than it used to be. This means that the bar is staying closer to being over my midfoot creating better balance for me in the hole and I can generate more power during the lift. Just need to keep working on my mobility and focus on sitting back before my descent to get myself in the correct position. We’ll keep working at it to get better everyday!

Out of all muscle groups trained, back is arguably the one most associated with “loose” form. Swingin’, turkey-neckin’, using momentum and body-English and the worst of all....lots of unnecessary grunting.

Everybody wants a better back in bodybuilding, yet most don’t want to use the musculature of their backside appropriately. Drop the ego. Drop the weight. Pull with your elbows using your hands as hooks and use a full range of motion. C’mon son.....or daughter....or non-binary term you’d like to use.

Its been a week since I competed. I've had some time to let emotions subsided and appropriately reflect. Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed with my performance. This however will serve as a sufficient wake-up call.  I've been battling with countless injuries and poor health for some time. I'm stubborn and competitive. I don't know when to quit. There were days I would lift and have 10/10 pain. I'd even be fighting back tears. But the weight was moving so I kept going. "Only quitters quit", I'd say. But I've reached my breaking point now though and need to stop. I'm sick and tired of the constant injuries. Balancing law school, externships, training, plus my health is just not working. It has nothing to do with poor programming or my weight. I try to do everything as optimal and efficient as possible. Powerlifting and hypopituitarism just don't mix. I'm lucky if I get 10hrs of sleep a week. I rarely have energy or motivation... it feels like a 24/7 hangover. There might be days where I'm more quiet than normal, please don't take it personal. I do my best to try and keep a smile on my face and be friendly... but it's hard. I'm unable to balance cortisol levels naturally... add the destruction of powerlifting and I simply cannot recover. All this being said, I'm not trying to make excuses for the poor performance. I was the one who chose to push through and not drop out. But I will be taking some time off now. I need at least a year before I compete again and instead, focus on getting healthy. I'll still be at the gym of course. But working on improving imbalances, hypertrophy, and fun will now be the goal. .

Walk in and put in work. I’ve said it before, my back is one of my most lagging body parts. Although I’m fairly strong in it I need to really get good quality work for my back to grow.

Here are some easy tips for putting on muscle during on off season or a gaining phase.
#
Make sure you are eating enough calories. Building actual muscle tissue isn’t as easy as losing fat. You will have to make sure you are eating enough calories and protein to have the energy to fuel muscle growth. (Individual needs vary)
#
Be consistent in the gym. Have a plan and stick to it. Track your workouts and make sure you are making progress using the principles of progressive overload.
#
Give your body rest and time to recover. Make sure you are getting a good nights rest and taking a day or 2 off (individual needs vary) and schedule a deload every so often.
#
And most of all... drum roll plz.... be fukkin patient. You are not gonna grow 20lbs of muscle in a month. Just keep grinding, pushing, eating and working. As long as you follow these few guidelines you are putting your self in a good position to grow. Now go work and get dem gainz
