Number 1 and 2 of the 5 exercises I've been given to do every day are what's coined hypopressive exercises. They're designed to work the deep abdominals, strengthen the core and pelvic floor muscles. To me it's a strange adaptation as I'm so used to engaging my core with a variety of planks and crunches. .

After day 1, I feel like there is actually already a small improvement. Which feels wrong to say but I do feel a little slimmer today. .

My hypopressive exercise. Lying flat on your back, knees bent, feet flat 1- breath in and push the stomach out 2- exhale and pull the belly button into spine. Almost like you are trying to hollow out your rib cage and try to roll in from each hip towards the centre. The second part of this movement you will feel more internally. On the exhale hold for 8 counts. The second exercise is a build/modification. Where you push against your thighs as you draw the stomach in. .

Spinal articulation

This is a fundamental part of the pilates practice. I incorporate it into my daily pilates routine to help stretch out the spine and release tension in the #lowback. .
Spinal articulation practiced in the hip bridge not only helps the flexibility of the spine, but it helps strengthen the core and glutes as well.

Peel each vertebrae one at a time come off the mat. Take it nice and slow. Start by tucking the pelvis and continue with the rest of the spine feeling the scoop in the abs.

Hold and tighten the #glutes at the top as you release the scoop in the abs.
.
Set each vertebrae back down onto the mat starting with your ribs using the #deepabdominal #muscles and scooping the abs once again. Feel the stretch in the spine as you draw the tailbone to the opposite end of the room.

It's not your body that's in pain, it's you in your body. It's called consciousness. Put things back where they belong.
