18.2...Heavy Lifting, Open Style!
The crux of this workout is getting through the nastier-than-it-looks little couplet as fast as you can while still having time left to recover and work up to your max Clean.
✅Hit a short general warm-up then focus on the Clean. Use PVC progressions working into an empty barbell and then build up to your opening lift and even a little beyond.

✅Arrange a nice tight set up for the dumbbells in relation to the barbell.
✅Practice a few sets of the couplet to get your transitions dialed. They should be smooth and quick.
✅Have all your weights for the Clean laid out in advance.
✅Be mentally ready for the work to increase as you get more tired!
✅You gotta go for it here but without crushing yourself entirely. The couplet matters! It’s a score and it’s a tie break in the event another athlete hits the same lift as you.
✅Do your damnedest not to break up the squats. The faster you go, the more they burn; stay steady anyway.
✅Check the NEW BURPEE STANDARD for Rx’d athletes. It’s two footed jump back, jump forward and jump over. No more stepping back!
✅Open with the heaviest load that you are confident you can hit. The first Clean after the couplet will feel heavier than it did during your warm-up (trust me on this!).
✅Have a set load in mind that you would like to post for score. If you know your PR, anticipate hitting that AND have the weights available for a bump up from there. Why not, right?! Every year we amaze ourselves with our achievements in the Open #bereadytoamazeyourself
✅If you have time to get multiple attempts, compressed rests and small jumps can work well (vs. longer rests and big jumps).
✅If you only have time for 2-3 lifts, .
