Back at it on #ThwipThursday! I owe a long overdue thanks to @ArtofWillTorres for the great deal on this ASM 789 sketch cover! I had to look it up cause it had been so long, but I recognized battle damaged cyborg Spidey from Spider-Man 21 and loved the swipe so I asked about it and Will hooked it up! Even sent it directly to CGC for me! Thanks dude!

#Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans throughout the former Confederacy of the southern United States.

I got mail the other day from @rotn616 and it was my Uncanny X-Force/NIN mash-up tee. First off, follow @rotn616 and buy some shirts and spread the word. He’s a good dude trying to make a living and he’s fighting Instagram’s stupid algorithm too.

I’ve rambled about how great this series was, but it’s probably time to do it again. Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force run came at a time where I was getting burnt out on comics. I saw the cover on the shelf and immediately checked it out.

I knew who the X-Men were after growing up on the animated series, video games, and having read a few comics here and there. The idea of a secret mutant team doing the X-Men’s dirty work though? Awesome.

I was lucky enough to talk to Rick Remender at C2E2 a few years back (awesome dude) and I told him that his run saved comics for me. He told me he wanted to tell a story and was fortunate enough to be given the right toys to play with by Marvel.

The series follows a new incarnation of the X-Force, this time operating in secrecy after Cyclops told them to shut it down. Each member of this team has blood on their hands. Wolverine, Psylocke, Archangel, Fantomex, and Deadpool are tasked with killing Apocalypse, reborn into a child. It raises a ton of questions of morals. Could you kill a child knowing they’d become Hitler (or in this case, Apocalypse?) The debate of nature versus nurture. The idea that you are ultimately in control of your own destiny.

The characters are deep and written extremely well, and the artwork (shared by Jerome Opeña, Greg Tocchini, and Phil Noto) is stunning! As the series continues, new members join the team and new foes stand in their way. They visit the Age of Apocalypse, and lots of really difficult decisions are made in the name of the greater good.

If anyone were to ask me to recommend one comic series to read, I’d recommend this one over and over again. And I’m hoping beyond hope that this is where FOX’s X-Force movies go, regardless of who owns what. •
