Aconitum columbianum. This special little flower goes by lots of names, but is best known as Monkshood or, better yet, Wolf's Bane. It's deadly poisonous, enough so to take down whales according to Wikipedia: "Aconitum poisons were used by the Aleuts of Alaska's Aleutian Islands for hunting whales. Usually, one man in a kayak armed with a poison-tipped lance would hunt the whale, paralyzing it..." Utilized for hunting purposes in ancient Chinese, Indian, and European cultures, this is a truly timeless weapon. Historically, it has been used in poisonings and assassinations. It's poisonous properties are even thought to deter vampires. Just so happens that it grows all over the place up here in Wyoming. Vampires, beware.
