Poe and Puppets 1/3 "I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees --very gradually --I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever." ~Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe
A well dressed man holds a severed head aloft. His disheveled hair contrasts starkly with his fine clothing. Lyon Forrest Hill looks like a madman.
He definitely plays the role well. Hill runs an Edgar Allan Poe Puppet show. It's part puppet show, part acting, full theater. His show started low, so my seating prevented me from seeing most of the opening act. There was more depth once life sized puppets were involved, and interest spiked while watching him dismember a puppet on stage for his Tale-Tell Heart show.
Lyon Forrest Hill is a genius. His work includes puppets, shadow plays, acting, and moving dioramas. His passion bleeds out and is infectious. It will take ahold of you. If he performs next year, go see it. You need to see it.
