[ UNYAK (Hanji Letter / Paper Set) ]
Silk can endure for five hundred year.
Hanji (한지, traditional Korean paper), on the other hand, can endure for a thousand years.
To Koreans, paper was a medium that transports and bestows wisdom through letters. Also it was the root of the joy of handwriting. “Promise” offers a glimpse into the mentality of the ancient Koreans through its analog texture, as well as the beauty of empty space. On a sheet of Sunji ( 순지,pure paper), a type of Hanji with exceptional white color, strips of paper with colors from Dancheong ( 단청, traditional paintwork) have been added to recreate a contrast and texture that is unique to Hanji. [ HANJI ]
Hanji (한지,traditional Korean paper)breathes with time and is soaked with the years that faded away into the past. Haji is a work of craftsmanship made from the nature pulp of paper mulberry. Though the craftsman’s hands, it is turned into the past. A single sheet of Hanji requires 99 stages of processing, which will only be completed when a person’s hand writes on it – the 100th stage. This is the reason why Hanji is also called Baekji ( 백지,hundred paper). 5th floor, Staunton, PMQ, 35 Aberdeen street,
