The finished project... Many years ago a friend shared the poem “Ithaca” by C.P. Cavafy with me. It’s based on the journey of Odysseus, and it’s about how the paths we take in life make us who we are. It is very meaningful to me because sometimes I regret the time I “wasted” pursuing another career. How much more might I have accomplished if I’d started as a photojournalist at 18 instead of 28? The poem reminds me that I’m here where I am today because of the path that I took, and of the gifts it has given me.
This @robie_sayan design is based on the 2,500-year-old Siren Vase in the collection of the British Museum. It depicts Odysseus tied to the mast of his black ship to avoid the temptation of the Sirens, who would distract him and keep him from his destination. The line work and details are amazing- Robie is a gifted artist, and I’m so glad he was as excited as I was to do this piece.
